When my 77 CVCC started acting up in the fuel line, I replaced the fuel filter immediately. It needed it drastically but still did not help. So I changed the pump. Not sure if it needed to be replaced and it still didn't help. Upon further investigation, I found that when the rear seat was re-installed, b/c the fule lines around the pump were long, one of them would bend and kink, thus restricting the fule to the engine. I wrapped it in a way that it would not kink and problem was solved! Just my experience.

I did not want to put much money into it until I knew if the engine was in good shape. The timing belt had just been changed so I know that is OK for now. I will start changing fluids and check out that fuel pump and filter. Thanks for the input.
Next project will be interior. The front seats are trash.

Probably the fuel pump cutoff relay. Do you hear a clicking or thunking coming from under the driver's side rear seat area when the car is running? That's the sound the fuel pump makes. The fuel pump cutoff relay is under the dash, and the easiest thing to get to. I'd pull the lower part of the backseat and check to see if you're getting voltage to the pump, and change the fuel filter while I'm in there. If you've got voltage at the pump, but the pump doesn't work, change the pump. They pop up on e-bay pretty often for around $40. I don't think you'll have much trouble getting it to run right once you get the fuel delivery issue cleared up, my Civic sat for about seven years before I got it, and she started up and idled fine, even with the old gas in the tank. I'd change the timing belt on your Civic too if you don't know how long it's been on there. Change all the fluids, check the brakes, and new plugs/wires/cap/rotor, take it for a short drive, then check for leaks. If all's good, take it for a long drive and change all the fluids again, and enjoy your Civic!

This weekend I got a chance to work on the civic. Got the belts on (See previous post). The engine started for the first time in four years. I had poured a solvent/fuel additive into the tank to try to dissolve any varnish but the previous owner said the tank was left empty. The engine sounds solid and would run as long as we were feeding the carb manually. I suspect the fuel pump or carb (clogged). Can anybody tell me which part of this fuel system is most prone to problems?
