Its not just A "rubber" Isolator in the factory strut mounts, Cut one then you will see. Done the way you wrote will get your car in the ditch with the strut poking through the hood.

Don,
To try to be a little clearer about what I was thinking was to jig the old pieces into a cast or fabricated form first. Then take them out and remove all the spent rubber isolator as bonded to the metal inner and outer parts of the strut cap. At this point one could just rejig the two metal pieces and cast in new polyurethane at whatever durometer is best/chosen and voila.
The other option would be to used a piece of proper diameter id tubing and cut the lower part to be able to slide it in and up perhaps 1" then reweld the outer part(with the three studs) to the outside of the tubing ,and then cast in the urethane,
It seems like a lot of work, but these factory parts as you know are disappearing, plus the urethane would be more durable and plus have the advantage of a built in drop. You could drop the car 1-2" and still retain full strut travel and have a more streetable ride than modifications totally race oriented. Does that sound feasible to you?
Point is I think there would be a limited market for them...maybe half a dozen or so of us true 1st Gen addicts.

I found poly mounts at a 4-wheelers supply store here in Phx. that fit my 2nd gen. dogbone with a little modification. Bad for the street!! It would be great for a race car but EVERY vibration is transferred and It gets old in everyday driving. I went back to stock mounts.

Nope The strut top caps have reinforcement in them that poly would not. You would most likely punch the stuts thru the hood and wreck the car. Stick to metal for strut tops its safe.

I have been kicking around the idea of using poly to remanufacture the front strut caps. Also seems to me it would be possible to build in a 1" "drop" which could allow full strut insert travel with a cut spring. Does that sound feasible to you, Don?

Don,where on net was pourable poly for mounts, i am interested for other things...as the poly bushes you got from Aus were from my original bushes and Noltec copied them for me and another bloke.........

If you talking dog bones poly bushings not the custom aluminum brace... The ones I have fit 1200's if the bushing size is the same then yes I have them. In ITC your techincaly allowed to add an engine stay rod thats why I did up the alloy one, BUT it doesnt say you can chuck the old one. So it would be spliting hairs to add the custom stay rod. I did replace the bushings in the stock 1200 dog bone with the poly bushes from Oz and am so far very happy. There was a place on the net that had pourable poly for engine mounts this is what I would use if custom mounts were neeeded. It was pretty cheap too.

Thanks,
Phil

Ok why would you manufacture an aluminum dog bone when you can buy one straight off the shelf with the exception of two sleeves? If something ever gets ugly or damaged no fuss just get another piece... try that with a "one off" Its easy and cheaper than you just posted. I'm not selling them they are parts that fit and are availble a your local circle track shop. I posted pictures ages ago I think they are in the archives. Nice looking piece. If you want I can give you the info? The only reason I'm not running it is The SCCA rules.

I have to ask my boss. I was waiting to see if there were enough people that wanted them, before I asked him. I would guess no more then $100 u.s. for both. It would be an aluminum dog bone and a steel engine monut both with polyurethane bushings. If there is anyone else interested please let me know.

By Don (199.2.139.187) on Monday, August 02, 2004 - 07:33 pm:

They are already in the USA and done I made up two types one was a gold or black anodized aluminum piece, that can be made from sprint car parts in any lenght you want for under $80

Second I have the poly bushes for the dog bone imported from oZ $45 a set. I only have a few of these left but if there is enough interest we could do another buy. I have race my Civic for 2 1/2 seasons and its still like new.
