Ayyyy!! sweet, thanks for the info parker...they're now on my (Slooowly shortening)wish list!

These springs are crappy APC, but they work fine and ride really stiff, good enough.

farenheight, What springs did you use on your setup?

farenheit, you can get aluminum top hats from Ground Control.

I just cut my springs. Took off two turns. Wow, car looks better and handles turns sweet. Pot holes and speed bumps are now very noticible. Other than that, go slow over speed bumps and avoid pot holes. I'm very happy with cutting the springs and will post photos as soon as I get a chance.

I cut mine. Car sits about 1.5" to 2" lower than stock. Basically two coils have been removed.

Car rides alright and corners awesome compared to the stock ride height. It does not bounce like the low riders but you do feel the larger bumps in the road a lot more. I cut my coils with a Dremel :)

Through the winter, I am going to have some custom springs made up to 'properly' lower the car. From what I hear most spring shops can make them up for you.

the stainless brake hose kit is made by Russell for a 92 Civic Si, I also use the 92 Si callipers to make it work. The stock brake hoses are half piping...so I'm not sure if they will fit a stock calliper but they might.

I don't like the idea of cutting a spring...it cancels out the springs "foot", and they're designed to work as a whole 100%, not 75%. It does cheaply lower the car though.

Looks great, thanks for all the great info. I notice most of you talk about coil-over suspension would cutting a small amount of the spring off be real bad, Has anyone done this? How's the ride?

Heres what he means...

its soo easy...just chop off the perch with a hacksaw, make it look purdy with a grinder. Try and get a coilover set with aluminum top perches, mine are some kinda plastic...and I don't feel very safe with them...mabe they can be ordered from somewhere.

I have some pics on my civic page at
http://groups.msn.com/KnifeboysCivicPage/shoebox.msnw
It's under suspension. Look at the very last picture. You'll notice that the "cup" or lower spring perch is absent. On the other pictures the lower spring perch is what holds the base of the springs.

If you're using the factory springs with the coilover sleeves you may not need to chop the springs. But if you go with the aftermarket springs that come with the sleeves then you might have to cut a coil....or two....or three.... etc...... See the picture where I have the stock spring side by side with the chopped aftermarket spring. That how much of a difference it was simply due to the spring stiffness. Hope that helps. :)

hey do u have a pic so i can see what u mean about the front where u cut the lower spring perch and the new split collars i have a wagon and i lowerd the rear by taking the other to leaf springs off i was going to use a 2inch lowering block but couldnt find u bolts that fit

By Jason (Roadwarrior) (24.69.255.203) on Sunday, August 08, 2004 - 03:50 pm:

you can buy 88-2000 civic coilover sleeves, and slide them over the original shocks, but you will have to cut off the original lower spring perch, and install split collars to support the new coilovers.

this is what i have done, and it allows the car to drop to a 2 finger gap, and still have good suspension travel.

How about the coilover conversion. Get some early 90's Civic/CRX coilovers. Get some VW Rabbit, or Koni inserts for your struts. Then mount the coilover perch on your strut assembly and use the coilovers. Better than chopping.

I would like to lower my 77 civic in the next month. I'm ok with cutting the original springs a little, don't need a full slam just 1-2 inches. Anyone in So Cal willing to help do it cheap? or swap with stereo work, detailing, panel painting.
