Wow, I've been off this site for a little while, but I'm floored by this news.
Wicked bummed to hear about the condition they found your lil Spec-X in ... Friggin' little Pr*ks!!!
Seems obvious to me they were just getting their jollies at the expense of someone who obviously really cared about his car. They had to know it would eventualy be found thus the lil' messages.
I hope someday they each get it done to them ten fold to something they really care for ... A curse on those heartless lil' bast*rds from the 1st Gen Honda fans!!! AD

Well i would be happy if that money was just for the car, but thats for everything, like my stereo. Plus i had all my tools in the car, spare civic parts incase something broke on me, and i had tons of other little goodies in there too, that ill never see again.... o and my cds :S I just never would have thought that my honda would get stolen... but with my new one im not makin the same mistake, and im putting up a wall with a gate around my driveway so you cant leave the yard as easily! lol

Troy,
you should have been able to take pics of your car, tow truck drivers have no say, but they can be intimidating. I'm glad to hear they found the car but it's sad that it had been killed. $1800 is really good for ICBC, when justin got into the accident with the wagon they were only going to give him $1000 for the car, but we made a deal so that we got the wagon back (was easy to fix up).

No difference in the VIN from a regular 1200 5 speed, the all started with SB-E.

No my civic didnt have the speakers at the back, thank god. It really sucks though, i hated to see her like that, the tow truck guy said it looked like it was pulled in bye another vehicle for part of the way. And im not sure why i wasnt alowed to take pictures, but as soon as i pulled out the camera he made a bit of a stick about it! I didnt get alot, well acording to the ppl i know i got alot for the car, but i dont think so, they gave me $1,800 but when you think about it, that wont get me anything, i mean, i had a beautiful, running car that would get eyes from ppl, with $1,800 all you can get is some ugly taurus or somthing.... I mean i dont think its fair at all, but theres nothing i can do about it that i know of and i already have the money. But i managed to scrape together enough money for a 1996 civic coupe! Red just like last civic..... but i still have a 78 that im rebuilding, i just wish i had my specail X for parts, but wats done is done and i see the civic has no hope left so what do you do?
By Dave (206.172.136.68) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 07:06 pm: |
I figured it would turn up but not in that bad of shape. Thats awfull! I would like to do the same to their cars (if they even have a car). I wonder why the tow truck driver would not let you take pics of the car. That sounds realy strange. What did the insurance finaly give you for it? Does it look like they stripped it for parts or more vandalized it? Just some A-holes out to have their kind of fun. Sorry to hear it bud.
By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.163.89) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 05:38 pm: |
Finally, now it's been found but not good when it's been stripped down! That's low and it sucks. Obliously - someone whoever stole your car had some help taking parts off it.
Up on a mountain with a Civic? Was it on a logger road or a small rugged road (like what 4x4 trucks use for playing around)? If so, it's hard to believe from what the tow truck guy tell you!
Hope you can get pixs of that. I hate to say but the crooks knew what they were doing with your car. It must had been planned before it was even stolen, it got to be! Had to be...what else why it come up found on a mountain. That would be a logical and good spot, plus the stinkin' crooks had lots of time pulling parts off in their merry tunes! Evil...! >
Did anyone noticed that there were couple of auctions from Canada (in eBay) suddenly pulled out. They featured one JDM 2-spoke wood wheel and 2 rear -mounted speaker grilles. Troy, did your car used to have the rear speakers mounted on the roof? I wonder...cuz today you report today and about couple days ago the eBay Canadian auctions got pulled out. A condenice or a funky timing, hmm?

you guys wont believe this, my civic was found, way up in silverstar mountain, it was found bye a hunter, and its not pritty, the tow truck driver told me he could hardly get it with his 4X4, and he said he has no idea how anyone could get the civic in there. Now the civic has no bumpers no carpet, and get this NO ROOF! it was cut out with a torch, and the glass is all gone, and the assholes drew flames on it and wrote little messages on it like last ride, and time to die The dash is torn to , my stereo, megs, and floormats, are all gone, theres nothing left of her.... I was gonna take some pics of her to show but the tow truck driver wouldnt let me..... It was very depressing to see..

the apv300 value is for you to determine based on the receipts you have on file for your project. the higher the apv300 value, the higher your insurance premiums. thus, your apv300 limit will be as high as what you can document. it comes down to what you can afford for insurance coverage. if your car is totalled and you have an apv300, the limit of indemnity will be based on the declared dollar amount.
to get started, go to your autoplan agent (find a good one that knows what they are doing). tell them you want an apv300 endorsement and have those receipts ready at agent office and start adding up those numbers. a good agent with knowledge makes all the difference in getting things done right on the first try.
By Elv (Elv) (24.84.146.212) on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 12:23 am: |
as i am in the process of finishing up my project car, i do want to have my vehicle valued correctly. get an apv300 icbc endorsement. this shows a declared value on the vehicle. have documented photos of the restoration project and receipts on file. we all know there is nothing in the buy and sell or local newspaper that can even come close to the value of our restored cars so, keeping tabs on what cars have sold on this forum is good. example, how much is that blue civic going for in the classified section? find out and keep it noted for documentation. better yet, print out the photos of that vehicle as well.
by having an apv300 and documentation of the vehicle's investment, will an appraiser be able to do a acceptable job. just the documentation from an independent appraiser alone without receipts or pictures will be unacceptable if a total loss occurs. an appraiser only solidifies the value of the apv300 amount placed on the insurance.
by the way i work for icbc as a claims adjuster.

But one of my buddies called me tonight and said he is possitive he saw my civic on the back of a flat bed coverd in mud with the windows booted in. I called around the tow yards in the phone book but they say that they dont have it??? But i really hate ICBC they SUCK!!!
By dana stregger (207.81.26.8) on Monday, September 20, 2004 - 10:29 pm: |
Troy,The fact that ICBC has no cars to compare yours too is a bonus for you.Be patient, use the knowledge from the board, have them contact people that have the cars, give them the list of names and phone numbers. The people on the board know what the cars are worth and the fact that they are difficult to find.Don't be a quiter they are difficult because they need to be as there is many scamers out there.Remember you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.
Make a list of everything your car has and make them do the work.
Dana call me if you need help???

I've had my cars appraised, but when Mo's car was in the accident, they wanted to write it off... I supplied Sher with the receipts and they totalled just under 15K.. ICBC fixed the car, the estimated repair cost was around 8K! I really need to have all of the cars appraised. I would talk to ICBC and find out which appraiser they suggest.

They offered me their book value of $3700 for my Marquis that was in mint condition with new tires and so on. I built a "case" and showed them adds that I printed off the net and auto trader and ended up getting almost $9000. The play this game with everyone.

On a side note....where did you have your cars appraised Justin? It would be nice to have something in writing in case this happens to me.
Do you have receipts you can take them....they must mean something?
By shnitzel (24.66.80.104) on Sunday, September 19, 2004 - 08:52 pm: |
yup, be tough with icbc.... i had a renault alliance, junk car... got totalled by some old lady. anyhow, icbc looked in the bargain finder. found the most expensive alliance in the book (because mine looked pretty sweet) and they offered me $800 and they keep the car... ha ha ha ha ha, i laughed. pointed to my ignition system. said those two boxes alone are worth that. i'll be back tomorrow. booked another appointment.
then, i went to a friend who has a garage and ice track races. got a written quote on what he would charge to put a 2.0L gta engine in it, 5 speed, susp, ignition, weber, exhaust... ha ha ha, cant remember but it was like $2000 of labour at least... then i went to the sterio shop i dealt with. got the salesman to write a quote on what it would cost to INSTALL my sterio as i had done. then to the body shop for quotes on shaving my handles and hooking them up to remotes / painting the whole car as i had done... ha ha ha, when i was done i had about $8000 in written estimates.
so i returned the next day, showed him this. got $3400 and i kept the car... sweeeeeet.
here's a good pointer. go to a few garage sales a year just for dickering practice... allways offer 1/2 price or $2, which ever is less. ha ha ha. thats what the icbc guys do, there a business trying to save money like any other... but my argument was, i bought this insurance assuming my car gets fixed, and if you cant make my car back to how it was before that little old lady hit me then what was the point in making me buy the insurance in the first place???? ha ha aha ha ha... hatem, but i've learned there game.
heres the car: http://www.shnitzel.net/shnitzelhome/hotrods/83renaultalliance/83renaultalliance.html
btw, this accident was AFTER i rebuilt the whole thing a second time, after the deer incident... never paint a car yellow.......

Troy, I've been down that road with ICBC when I had an accident with my '75 van. My van had been refinished fresh with paint, new motor and some hi-pref parts. All the work was worth at least $3K totaled. The first time ICBC offered me was $1500 "based" in their "book". I refused their offer and left ICBC sweat on their own, later about 4-6 weeks they counteroffer me up to $2600 and I took that up with them.
The "book" IS a JOKE!! How they get their info on price quotes is something I'll never understand. Most insurcane companies don't care what kind of car - even if it's a '57 chevy 4 door...they'll still try to give you at least 1/3 of its value.
Their methods is worlds apart from what the car fans and collectors precives of their car's status and values. Troy, try prove them that your "X" civic is a unqiue model not like what U.S. civics are, so what you had dug up "for sale" ads to compare with your car is the only way you have left by choice.
Be tough with ICBC - be firm in what you believe and keep ALL paperwork, your dialouge with them...everything. ICBC plays dirty!

What a joke, ICBC wont give me any higher than 1500 for the civic and then i have to take out my deductable.. they say the 'book' value is only 500 to 1000 dollars.... And they said they have nothing to compair it to, so i took them all the other civics i could find for sale and then they turnd them down because they are in american prices, so i took them one from the autotrader and they turnd it down cuz it has classic plates! WHAT BULLSHIT, now im out a car and i have to money for a new one, god i wish i could find the bastard that jacked my car!! Has anyone else had any problems with icbc??

Jeff, no it's not Troy's but yes, is silmiar like that - in fact, actually I did had discuession with the owner of that car in eBay. About few months ago, he had 2 civics ('77 blue and '78 red) and he offered me at a good deal but at this time I already got a '76 Civic.
Now I've seen that car again up for bids! No less, he seems to have "jack" up the price quote...well, all I can think was "good luck" - don't think I can go for that level like that!

My guess is that it will show up one of two ways. It will be recoverd with little damage in some parking lot somewhere or be found on some back road trashed. I very much doubt that they would steal it to strip and sell parts from it since its a car that is not in huge demand like for instance a new Civic or Integra or something like that. If it was being stolen for parts then most likely the guy that stole it wants the parts for himself and not to sell.

In most occasions they steal cars for transportation. Its a small group of us into these things so my guess it won't be parted out (course thats my speculation). In my experience they show up in a week or so, once its too heated up.

Troy, That's a nice car ya got! Good looking interior and I like the little decal on dashboard - "I AM Canadian" - kinds of make it fitting being that it's a Special X!
While on the topic of stolen cars - it's a well-docemented fact that the cars in red color are among the most stolen by number. No one knows why the red color was the top choice - no matter what kind of car! Some said it's the brightness of that color, some disagree on that.
There was one red '89 Mustang which was stolen that I was handled for a job at the shop - I did body repair on that, then the next 4 times it come back in 6 weeks! Every time it come back, some damage was done. The owner even had installed TWO alarms in there - still failed! On the 6th time (heard from my boss), the owner got tired and decided that it has to go - sold away! I laughed a bit but oh whoa - 6 times?

Hi Troy,
Sorry to hear! And a Special-X... Worse!
You'd think the only folks that are into these old Civics are the folks on either of the 1st Gen sites ... but, when I take my Civic out it does occasionally attract folks who seem way too interested ... not a good feeling.
I'm in Massachusetts and probably one of the last few 1st gens left in the northeast US and an eBay junkie ... so will keep a lookout too.
Sorry Bud,

It also had a fairly good stereo... too bad hey, i hope my insurace gives me somthing good for it, i just wish i got to keep the headliner and gauges!
