I am mostly into the old muscle cars. I think your 79 is cool though.....and very rare. I friend of mine has one just like yours.

The list of my cars is long.

1965 shelby mustang car #144
2 1965 chevelles
69 chevelle SS
88 Iroc camaro
and my civic

My shelby is my prize possesion, but unfortunately I am selling it to build
a shop of my own so I don't have to rent
anymore. :(

I am also looking for an early model Trans am.

Howdy Brian...

I used to live in the Atlanta area too. I spent 9 years in the SE Marietta and Smyrna area (my family moved to TN in 1991). I'm originally from Los Angeles.

Have you got a pic of your civic?

My muscle cars I own are a 1969 Cutlass S Holiday Coupe. Well a solid body of one anyways... no motor yet... a project for the future. I was given a barely running Ford pickup and made the trade for it. Also I have a 1979 Hurst/Oldsmobile W30 (rare white/gold one of just over 1100 - that's Hurst shifters not a hearse... :-) I get that a lot). I have the numbers matching engine in need of rebuild to put in storage but right now I am in the process (well during free time so not much in the last month) of installing a 455 rocket and replacing some front end pieces. Currently my "nice" collectible car that I'm not embarrassed to take to a show :-) is actually a 1987 Dodge Diplomat Cop Car... fully equipped down to siren, radar, cage, lights, radio, gun rack, everything - fully marked as a "Mayberry Sheriff's" Car. Pics at: http://www.442spot.com/cpierce/dodge/dodge.html Interesting story about how I got this car and the equipment to complete it but as it doesn't concern Hondas... hit me by email if your interested in hearing.

Sorry for the parially off topic post guys. I'll try to keep it more on topic... I guess this is just kind of my introduction though... so I thought I should mention my other interests.

Yeah... 335 sounds about right for Clarksville... I've been there before actually. Went to a campground of some sort near there. I will definately keep in touch with you and we'll see what my financial situation is here in a few months. Right now... I am just finishing up moving, myself, not quite as far but still a few expenses... and am still for the moment paying double rent. Plus I have just (within the last 2 weeks) had clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch slave cylinder, on my 94 Ranger... and even with that I will be driving to Winnipeg this 30th in the truck helping a good friend move (he just graduated with his phD in Biomedical Sciences and will be working at the University there). Of course that will be basically an all expenses paid vacation for me
:-) but I will still miss a couple of weeks at work. So basically yeah this month isn't a good month for car purchases but here in about 2 or 3 I might be able to swing it.

On the junkyard... it used to be called Dry Creek Salvage... but its been out of business and out of the phone book for most of a decade now. He does not and can not sell to the public as he would risk serious tax issues, etc. etc. also he's a really suspicious type (mountainfolk... lived his whole life surrounded by National Forest) so to get anything you'd really have to go through me... but I'll try and get some pics next time I'm there (may be a few weeks or month or so).

Ok I checked, you are 335 miles away but its about 5+/- hrs. Memphis is 500 miles.

Clayton,

The hatch was actually an option for these cars. Funny that the trunks seem to be harder to come by?? The hatch was more pratical though... Like you, I prefer them as well. Just that much different then what you see today.

Clayton, the trunk model in TX is mine. Good news, Im coming back to TN. I am being stationed at the 101st Ft. Campbell KY, again! I will be bringing both my civics with me. Its still up for grabs. The only way I would keep it is if another deal fell thru which Im %100 percent sure it should not. So yes even after I spend the little bit to bring it with me it will still be for sale for $1500.

My grandmother lives in Bristol, its about 350 miles if I remember correctly from where I will be moving next month, Clarksville. Bruce here on the board also lives nearby and so do a couple others. It takes me about 3-4 hours drive. No worries the car can make it too.

The one you had looks exactly like it right down to the year, color and door moulding.

Anyway what is the name of the place with all the junkers, maybe I will take a ride out someday, later. Email me at jmsmilin@hotmail.com

Hey Guys...

Thanks for the welcome...

I looked up that car for sale in Texas... wow is that mint! A pretty good price to for the condition, judging by what I've seen on ebay... and check out that trunk :-). But I just couldn't afford that right now he was asking 1500 and I'd have 2k in it by the time I could get it to TN. Really nice car though.

I found the guy from TN too... but it looks like he's from Memphis... which is actually really far for me. Believe it or not I'm actually about the same distance to Windsor, Ontario as I am to memphis even though it's in my same state -- really... 'bout 550 miles either way. Lessee... trying to think of a town people have heard of... I'm about 45 minute drive from Asheville, NC. That's probably the best known city around here.

Hi Clayton, My name is Bryan

I live in the N atl. area and have a 79 "trunk" model. I like you am also into muscle cars, and restore them for a living. I love my little civic and would not part with it.

Welcome to the board!

Clayton, welcome to the board! There was someone on the board a while back from your area, but I haven't seen him post in a while. His name is Errol, and by searching some of the older posts you can probably find his e-mail address, maybe he's pretty near to you. I've seen one trunk model in person too, but it was rusted beyond hope in a junkyard. Jared from Texas has a nice clean one for sale, if you're up for paying shipping, but it looks rust free from the pictures.

I'm the only one in my area that likes (or seems to have) a 1st gen Civic. The closest person on the board to me is around 75 miles away.

Any of the 1st gen's in your friend's junkyard happen to be 5-speeds?

By Clayton Pierce (1979hurstolds) (65.40.235.133) on Thursday, August 19, 2004 - 12:47 am:

Howdy Gang...

My name is Clayton Pierce. I'm from northeast Tennessee near Johnson City, Bristol Motor Speedway, and the North Carolina State Line.

Its great to find some others out there that like 1st generation Civics. Nobody else in my area that I've ever met... my friends that are into older American cars (as I am also) think I'm nuts... and most of the owners of newer Hondas around here have no respect for the older cars.

My first car was a 1979 Civic 1200 non-hatchback. I owned it from about 1992 through about 1994. I lived with my parents then and they made me sell it when I "upgraded" to a newer and lower mileage car. Here are the only two pics I have of it:

1979 Civic 1200
back of 79 Civic

And basically then ever since the late 90's while accumulating other cars... I've been looking for another but never found one. I have found a few hatchback cars. I bought a '77 or '78 hatchback (can't remember the year now) a few years ago. It had been sitting up on blocks for many years (probably at least 10) and so it was cheap - 40 bucks. Told the guy that I was going to try and get it running and spent an hour or so a day for about a week doing a tune-up oil change etc. Soon I had it running off of a bottle (didn't want to risk whatever was in the tank) and it sounded good. Was missing 2 or 3 of the wheels so I had to source some old Honda wheels... took a couple of weeks and when I came back the guy had hauled the car off to the crusher - wouldn't give me my money back either... said it had been sitting there too long - this after it had been sitting in that same spot for over a decade!

So I never have seen another non-hatchback model in person... I have a few pictures I've found on the net :-) so I know I'm not just seeing things :-) But never seen another in person. I just don't like the hatchbacks as well for some reason... I mean I'd happily take one... but someday I hope to find another "trunk" model. I have a parts source set up for when I do find a car... a friend owns a junkyard (been officially shut down for almost 10 years now... but I can still buy things from him of course). He has at least 4 or 5 1st gen civics in there. None are really restoreable on their own... but together there are enough parts to make 1 good car (or replace a few pieces on another car I might find). They are all hatchback models. At least one has a good interior but is rusted badly. Another is only half rusted. Another has a solid body but is missing many pieces (including full drivetrain axles, etc).

Well long enough message for now

Take It Easy...
