Hey, havent posted here for a while, but this thread is really interesting =) My 4WD civic will hopefully begin construction this summer fingers crossed! I like oyur idea of 'borrowing' the civic shuttle floorpan! Nice! What i want to know, is how you have the suspension set up. From the pics those wheels are WAY outside the line of the car, how do you have the struts fitted? Are you running full civic shuttle hubs etc with just the civic shell suspended over the top? So the wheels are way outside the body because the civic shuttle is much wider yes? In that case how have you avoided the huge neg. camber by having the struts at that angle?! Do explain =D

Maybe try this: http://gutterslide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112&sid=4e6795ba0d70711a0af653c090b04174
If that does not work just try gutterslide.com and go to the Performance Tech and Tuning forum. I don't think you have to join.

I don't know if you can see it in the photos but the radiator is just forward of the hood. I am planning on making a better grille type cover for the area between the bumper and the hood. I also plan to put some kind of air dam on to help hide the wagon structure that protrudes below the bumper. The AC compressor just goes in its stock location on a 1989 4wd wagon. The cut in this area on the wagon was made to the fender well about 2" outboard of the upper engine mount. There was really no problem with any of the accessories although I did remove the power steering mostly just to save weight and complexity. Obviously this car is much lighter than the wagon donor so I don't feel the power steering is necessary. Fitting the AC drier was a bit tricky. I left it in the stock location. It sits in the wheel well right behind and outboard of the '74 headlight. Thanks for the positive comments. Justin, I'll check out that website and give the guy the link if I can figure out how.

holy cow thats cool how did you get that dash in. WHen I looked at installing the AC pump into a D16 conv. on a 1 gen it looked as though the fender well would have to be cut and that it would hit the driver side strut, so how in the world did you get it to fit?

I don't have any pictures of the rear diff installation but remember that this is a complete 1989 floor plan (albeit shortened) transformation so the diff is mounted in the same way it is in a 1989 4x4 wagon. The car handles pretty well. Not as well as my Ford 2.3 turbo powered 914 with 911 front end and 16" wheels. I have a rear sway bar laying around that I plan to install. The D16A6 is stock with the exception of the exhaust which contains no cat. I have a Cherry Bomb and a Super Trapp but it is too loud. I plan to take some plates out of the Super Trapp. Tor, my email address is broth at sanjuan dot edu if you want to drop by and check out the car some time.

Wow, very nice! How's it handle? Are there any modifications to the engine, or is it mostly a stock '89 engine?

Wow, this topic came up a couple of years ago but I never knew anyone was actually doing it. Nice work.

Hey, I drive by Pollock Pines on my way to Tahoe a few times a year. I have been thinking of driving my Spex Elf up there soon. Great time of year out there. Usually I am driving my Scout to go snowboarding.
That is a great looking 4x4 you have there. very creative.

Here is a link you can access to find information and pictures about the 1974 Civic Hatch I converted to 4 wheel drive using 1989 Civic wagon components.
