Does the tranny have oil and is the clutch well adjusted? even when the synchros are shot, the car should upshift just fine since the motor is dipping in acceleration. Try replacing the trans oil (10W 30 motor oil or any ATF fluid) and tighten the clutch adjuster a bit. if the clutch is slightly engaged all the time it will be really hard to shift and you'll feel the gear stack moving as feedback in the stick.

I didn't want to hijack another post with my transmission question, so I created a new topic.

My friend 77 4 speed isn't doing so well. Still driveable, but gear are grinding. Going from... 3rd to 4th, I think, you have to wait in neutral for a while before you can shift, otherwise it grinds. I've heard a lot of talk about synchros gone... this is probably the case. I've also heard people say good luck repairing it. Is it that you simply can't get the synchros and rebuild pieces, or is it just that they're very hard to find?

If we can't get the pieces, what transmission is recommended from a maintainence standpoint? We wouldn't want to swap in another transmission that we can't get parts for.
