I thought of the same thing but using sheet metal with holes drilled in it... a piece of chain would be a lot easier

If your trying to remove the flywheel for surfacing, try using a piece of chain. Bolt it to a mounting hole for the transmission (10 mm bolt) and to a clutch cover mounting hole (6 mm bolt w/ washer). It's crude but it works.
Works for mounting it also.

your manual probably says it all. The three major points I took away from my swap were:
1. don't let the transmission hang off the main shaft/clutch.
2. Get a clutch alignment tool/old main shaft.
3. Keeping the flywheel stationary can be a bitch if you either don't have a helping hand or don't have the right tools.

I am going to replace the clutch on my 75 cvcc, 5 speed. Over the next couple of days. Any watch outs would be nice. I am using a Chilton's repair manual. I have replaced rear wheel drive clutches in the past but this is my first attempt at a front wheel drive car. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks Jim
