Accord question

This happened to my brother's Miata. I suggested that we bleed the slave cylinder just to see if there was any air in the system. That didn't work. I pulled the rubber boot back a little off the slave cylinder and a lot of fluid came out. It never gave any indication it was leaking. We got a rebuild kit and when taking the old one apart we noticed that the seal on the piston was old, weak, and deteriorated. It was letting the fluid by pass the seal right into the boot. I suggest that you look at the boot on the slave cylinder and just pull it back a little. You will notice immediately if fluid is in there or not. Then all you have to do is get a rebuild kit or a new slave cylinder, install, bleed the system and you are done! It's a simple repair if the slave cylinder is easy to access.

It definately sounds like seals going bad in the master cylinder or slave cylinder. I'm not sure how to test to see exactly which one is bad, but if both are the same age the seals are probably in similar condition in both. I've never looked at an Accord with a hydraulic clutch, but if they're anything like Jeeps, you have to drop the transmission to get at the slave cylinder to replace it. Might be different on Honda's, though. Once pressure is built, does it hold, or does the clutch pedal sink/clutch engage? Might not hurt to bleed it, it wouldn't cost anything but time.

no leaks that I have been able to find, and the fluid levels are normal.

sorry this is not civic related but my roommate has a 79 accord. The clutch is a hydraulic and it is acting up. The only way that you can get the clutch to disengage is to pump the pedal a bunch. It is acting like there is air in the hydraulic system. Does anyone have any ideas? I am thinking master cylinder is going bad. am I wrong in thinking this?
