I know who your talking about:)
I had been talking to your freind on and off for a while. Problem is there is not just one problem with the car! There is a BUNCH! It was crazy for him to drive the thing as is, it had problems even firing. Some of the parts were in sub standard condition. Soo my question is how do you expect to fix all the problems by asking questions over the internet? Because thats what got your friend in this problem in the first place. I can fix the car and would give your friend a discount but i'm 12hrs away

You might be better off getting an EN (80-82 civic eng.) thrown in there. You could get it rebuilt strip the intake, (carbs ect.) I think they'll bolt on the EN head. Then tow it to get the engine dropped in near his B-day.

when that happened to my car (91 civic) it was because the mix went too lean and caused too much heat. the pistons burned and melted and caused so much blowby that the camgear side camshaft seal blew out and it was spitting oil. looks like its time for another rebuild.

Hello!

I have a friend who owns a 1st gen racer civic that has a semi-built race engine. I think he use to visit this forum a while ago, but not recently. So, for saftey's sake, his name will be "John Doe". As a suprise bday gift, I'm working with his mother (who's not in the US) in trying to help get his car running before his birthday comes around in Jan '05. So, its kind of a long distance-networked-thru-friends planned bday gift.

And just to note, I am no 1g civic guru, however I am a 4-6g civic guru. So, the whole 1g civic tech world is new to me (carbs, finding old parts, etc). John Doe is more into vintage cars than I am.

His 1g civic has only been on the road maybe once during his 4yr ownership of it. The rest of the time it's been garaged/put on the back burner because of a multitude of problems, more than likley due to the carbs (I assume).

With that said, from what I remember, John's semi-built engine consist of these items:

- Dellorto 35mm sidedrafts
- Goldwing pistons
- 1300 crank + rods

The one day his civic DID run, which was around summer time a year & half ago, right when he got the engine rebuild done. It ran for about 6 hours then died. He lightly checked the engine out and this is the info he relayed to me:

"...what happened is that with barely like 6hrs on the motor it suddenly died on me without a bang or any kind of weird noise and i got oil coming out of the valve cover breather... when I pulled the plugs after its death i noticed the two plugs for cyl 1 + 2 were real lean. So, I'm guessing that something must have happened inside the first carb??? It's been a year and a half since it died and other than towing it here I haven't even disassembled it to look inside.."

...this is all the info I know about his civic at this time.

Does anyone have any tech suggestions/hints on what possibly went wrong with the tid-bit of info I'm giving?

I'm located in southern California. If there's a 1g civic specialist somewhere local I can discreetley tow his civic there and have it looked at & possibly fixed -- I'd be in debt to you!

Thanks for any help, any of you can provide, and sorry for the long post!

- N
