Eurocarb at http://www.dellorto.co.uk/ has intake manifolds for the EB2/3 head. I'm pushing them because I had them made and he still has some for sale. On rare occasion there will be one for sale on the board.
It's a high quality manifold for side draft Dellorto DHLB & Mikunis among others. It has dual water intakes from the head for better head cooling. Finally, very important, it is compatible with the stock distributor.

I found out what head I have on the engine - it's a EB2 head.

Don, sure - email me his # or post here whatever. If he's as good as you said, then I'll give a try with Bryan. Thanks!

Bryan IS a machinist He is the one you want to do your work especally on the head. He is very reasonable an does a much much better job than the corner machine shop. I ship my stuff cross country to him when there are three machine shops within a mile from me if that tells you anything. I can get you his # from work.

Thanks, Dan ! It looks like a EB2 head would be good for me. The question remains yet to be answered is what head do I have on my spare engine?
Bryan Maloof, if you're somewhere here - would you help me out in finding out what ways I should do with a EB2 head (valves, cam and such that)? I will have the head be cleaned, ported and machained by a local engine shop for me.
I have another question about intake manifold - any of you know what companies make for dual-carb models? I think Weber have one, I don't know about Offy (old hot-rod shop) doing for Honda...what other shops that I don't know? I see a few of you even had intake manifolds custom made.
Every little infomation I get will help me out in making decisions ahead for my engine, thanks!

Actualy The eb3 head works at higher rpms. The eb2 has smaller ports so it gives grunt at the bottom, the snappy "set you back in your seat" type of thing. I would talk to Bryan Maloof, but I think a eb2 with work done to the roof of the port could be the best of both for a hot street car. I never researched it because IT is pretty limited in what you can do port wise.
http://www.elgincams.com/ makes some nice stuff. A cam has to work with the head of your choice.
I wouldn't over bore it more than .5 MM I just like thick cylinder walls for reliability. And you dont have to muck around with finding head gaskets.
A 1200 handling is just fine, if you do it right. The turbo engine weighs more I think but not much more. If you think 1200 parts are hard... try finding City turbo parts in NA if you break!

I have another question to ask - for anyone who had ever done a modded 1200 engine before. How was your car's driviably and handling? I had read more of other articles on that topic. So that does make me think while I'm taking notes here. Thks!
One person tell me that I might be better in getting a ER Turbo (from Japan or Australia/NZ). I'd like to get hand of that one but knows they're like hen's teeth around, lol! I wonder what the going price for a used ER turbo engine is?

Greg, one other thing to note is you probably have the 1300 flywheel/clutch/pressure plate in there too. Just for if/when you need to order new parts, I'd want to make sure that you get the right stuff the first time.

Today, I took a look on the head at my work. I find one stamped number (behind the timing belt cover removed) "8" and another same number on top of head with valve cover removed. So that's the only mark I can see. Anyone know what it means?
Jonathan - I did drive the blue car around the shop/block before I pulled the engine. It went real good, did almost all shifting (got up to 4th shift before road run out!). The engine sounds fine...parked and it runs still good and didn't make any noises, I had it up to about 3-4K rpm bewteen shifting. Yeah, I had a talk with the old owner and he said the other former owner was a mechianc for Honda dealership, so likely the guy got access to 1300 stuff for the tranny to work with 1200. If that's true, then it saves me in not searching for a crank! The engine was done in 1998/99 according to the guy I brought from.
Don, if you're reading - what would you recommand me for a good head - EB2 or EB3? Thanks!
By Jonathan (68.193.6.173) on Thursday, September 16, 2004 - 03:28 pm: |
Ok, that transmission is from an '82 1300. The EB-2 you have might already have the 1300 bottom end in it, 'cause whoever did the transmission swap obviously had access to a 1300.
Did you get the chance to drive the car at all before you bought it? If so, how did it drive? Did it feel okay, or like it couldn't get out of it's own way?

Dual carbs - eurocarb has manifold and carbs
headers - you can find a set on the board occasionally
crank from 1300 - stroker
rods from 1200 - better rod rratio
custom pistons - same price as purchased, custom compression ratio
overbore 2 mm - stock block can handle it and gaskets available
hot cam - lots of them around on board or custom grinds easy to get done
eb2/3 head - eb2 for high end eb3 for low end power but talk to Don about heads and air flow
new rod bolts
7K+ rpm range for this motor is OK, done well can pull over 100 hp

Ok, I have a spare EB2 engine that I plan to rebuilt by long-term project (about 1 year or so). I have a EB2 block to start with. I'm looking to get parts that will allow the engine gain extra power. My goal is to get from 100 to 150 HP in range.
I have a 5 spd tranny - a GJ-88 type with 3.722 ratio gear (it was with that engine which I'd had it run before I pull it out).
I read in 1stgencivic site and see that there is an article about 2 ways with EB motors - one for 100 HP and another for 200 HP. I'll check on the head to see if I have a EB3 head on my engine.
What I have in mind for parts:
dual-carb setup (I'm thinking to get Weber carbs)
EN/EJ crank and rods
set of pistons (range from 70-75 mm overbore)
aftermarket or factory exhaust manifold - a 4-2-1 kind (wonder if it's hard to get one?)
Mugan cam (what ratio I should get - I don't know what type?)
What else I need to get in order to achive the level I need for my engine? Any feedback would be greatly apprecatied - thanks! I plan to begin the project this winter soon.
I'll be taking notes and if anyone have parts I can get - email me offsite or post your message here. Thanks!
