Replacing / repairing the bushings at the trans connection is the best way to eliminate the wobble in the shifter.
If you can make up some type of insert: from alum, delrin, washers cut to fit and fill the area, epoxy the spaces and redrill, ... you can stop it.
I have welded a universal joint in place for racing but don't know if I would recommend it for the street. You have to cut the old shift rod apart for the connections. I haven't tried drilling and bolting it yet.
A Replacement from Honda (if you can find one) was about $65 last time I checked.

Well I took it out...sread it open abit...then put it back, still alittle wobbly. I think I'm gonna redrll the hole and the put it in.

Nut and bolt combos dont work! You have to have a sprung pin, or it will always be sloppy. Just knock the pin out and get a new one, see if that helps.

oh yeaaa...that stuff that was in a previous post about making your own urethane engine mounts. We'll I'm in the middle of cutting out and fibreglassing rust right now so mabe on thursday when I go get the firbeglass materials, I'll get some urethane too for the linkage.
actually when I first tried to tighten up the slack...I did notice abit of play coming from the pin...I was thinkin on a nut and bolt combo, I think thats the answer! thanks guys...you da best!

If you take them apart you can fill them up with sikaflex like engine mounts...
Best try on a spare one cos i think theres some brutal disassembly required. Cant quite recall how we did mine.

You sure it's not coming from the pin where the linkage connects to the trans? That's where I had a lot of slack as I tried to use a bolt instead of pounding in the pin.

Ay guys and gals,
My shifter linkage is as loose and floopy as...well...its loose and floppy! Any easy way of tightening the bushings up? I already put a little slab of aluminum on the bushing right under the pivot ball but only helped abit. Mabe I could get a B&M short shifter kit for a 92 civic, go to the scrap yard and get a shift linkage outta a 92 civic, and weld it onto the 78 linkage? what have you done in this situation?
Cheers,
Colin
