Sean, Peter's '78 civic has the Y8 motor/ '91 civic 5sp.. it all depends on what you get as a donor. with Peter's he only got the motor, I sourced the tranny, ecu, chassis harness, engine harness. I ended up changing the motor over to obd1 (the Y8 is obd II) so I swapped the injectors, alternator, misc sensors.I ended up building a custom inboard for the long axle side(I'll take pics) I did the job roughly for $2500.00 plus parts.. but his bill keeps on getting higher..now he want's coilovers and my 15" panasports..
You can see pics of the progress at www.1stgencivic.com it's under peter's hybrid vtec swap.. Peter, will be sending in updated pics of the car..

alright here's the deal, i have a 75 civic 1200 that i recently bought, and i would like to do a d series swap (probablly something like a d16y8 with an older cable tranny). the thing is although i am fairly good with cars, i have never done a swap to a car, i have only done lighter tasks such as routine maitanence, brake and suspension work etc... so i was wondering if any of you have or know someone who has taken in their 1st gen into a shop to get this done, and an estimated cost for labor. or if anyone has done this swap with little swap experience, could you give me a layout of what i need to do. i have read on this forum and others, like 1stgencivic.com how to do similar swaps, but once again some of my inexperience with swaps slows me down understanding some of the processes. feel free to repost on this conversation, or email me at greatstuffonebay@hotmail.com
i am from minnesota so if anyone is in the area that is willing to meet up at talk that's cool too!
thanks guys, i havent posted on this site, but i must say i am a big fan of the site, lots of usefull info and the vibe here is very nice too.
