If that's the crank pully you're trying to remove then you want to shove a hoofing great screwdriver through the spokes and make sure you hold it tight when you try to undo the crank bolt. My bolt only came out with the application of a 2ft breaker bar. As for the cam pully I took the rocker cover off for that and did the screwdriver thing again with the spokes.

actually, i had the hood prop from a nissan sentra jammed in the pulley spokes, it just bent it (the prop, not the pulley jonathan ), and my screw drivers just shot out..i can try some water....i ought to be back out this weekend, hope its still there... also, i had started taking the plastic timing belt cover off, but it was a pain so i tried jamming more things in the grommet-hole (tranny dipstick, oil dipstick, etc) and never got back to it...for lack of a better word, its a real bitch.

Just shove a big screwdriver or something similar through one of the holes in the pulley. Turn the crank till the screwdriver locks against the block and undo the bolt.

Actually, that's not too much of a bad idea, the water might work....
I was also thinking, if you took off the upper timing belt cover, there might be a way to wedge something between the cam gear and the head/block, might involve removal of the valvecover. The timing belt might be enough to hold the engine still. Then again, it might snap.

oh crap, right I forgot it was a cvcc. How about some water =) think it would seal for long enough to put a spark plug back in and crack the pulley loose?
By Jonathan (68.193.6.173) on Thursday, October 07, 2004 - 06:40 pm: |
But on CVCC motors, there's an aux. chamber exposed to the plug, but nothing that'll let the rope go directly into the cylinder. I suppose you could take the valvecover and valvetrain out, then take an aux. chamber out, but that might be too much work.
By Kyle Thomson (24.83.12.187) on Thursday, October 07, 2004 - 06:34 pm: |
if you go back, try the old rope trick, take out a spark plug and fill the cylinder with rope, enough rope can jam the piston and stop the crank from turning

Yeah, I've got my 5-speed, (two, actually, just in case one breaks), all I have to do now is put it in. It seems like whenever I make plans to do the swap, something comes up and gets in the way. I hope to get it done before winter hits, but I don't know if it'll happen. I think I've got everything right now to do the swap except the spare time. The only 5-speed parts I'm really looking for are the little things, stuff that won't keep me from driving the car, such as the gauge light dimmer from a 5-speed.
By jamie (24.125.12.123) on Thursday, October 07, 2004 - 01:28 pm: |
Yeah, it would, i'll ask around the shop, but i think they all use air only...and i will get the total with shipping together for you...
did you see the post about the 5 speed 83 accord? but i guess you have your 5 speed, right?

Nah, I guess shipping would be the best route, let me know how much the total would be. It's a shame about the pulley, though. If you know where to borrow an electric impact gun it might help you getting it off, I could really use it... oh well, the search continues
By jamie (24.125.12.123) on Thursday, October 07, 2004 - 01:07 pm: |
so, i found the rubber grommet on the trans.., pulled it and shoved everything long, thin and metal i could in to no avail. could not stop the shaft from spinning so i could free the pulley...
alas....
but the good news is i can ship that condenser and ish ups real cheap thru work..less than 15 bucks..unless you still would rather trek down to get em some time...whatever's easier for ya...just lemme know whenever..

That's cool, keep me posted if you are able to get the pulley. I'm going to head to a junkyard near me to take a look at a '81 Accord with A/C, maybe I can get the pulley off the 1751 that's in there, but it has a power steering groove too.

Jamie, I called the number you posted and left a message... Do you have a Led Zeppelened themed message on your answering machine? I hope I didn't call the wrong person. Oh well, I guess I'll try you again tomorrow. If you see this in the meantime, you can try giving me a call at (973) 610-4586 at any time after 12:30 tomorrow.

Well, didnt hear from you today Jonathan, but like i said i would, I called the junk yard...it looks like 50-75 bucks for the A/C parts, the wiring harness would be another $40. Please let me know if you are still interested

Ok, maybe I should be a little more specific. I'm looking for an A/C crank pulley from a CVCC, as well as the condenser and fan shroud next to the radiator, alternator, brackets and knobs inside the car. Oh yeah, and the wiring harness for the A/C too, even if it's been cut up a little. I was planning on using it to make a pattern for a new harness.
The other A/C parts I'd like, but the shipping cost would be a little high, and I already have most of the other parts. I guess it depends on how much they'd cost to pull out of the car.
Do you think that it would be possible to grab those and ship them? If so, how much would you want for the parts? I think that's about it from the car, but when you do make it back there, would you be able to take a few more pictures? Namely of the area underneath the rear bumper, the rear wheel arches, and as many pictures of the A/C installation as you can, especially where the hoses and wiring are routed in the engine bay and through the firewall. The more pictures the better! If I can get some time off, I might be able to run down and pick the stuff up. If you have the time, I'd pay you to pull the parts for me, because I don't think I'd have enough time in a day to make it down there and back, and pull them myself.
I guess I could send you a money order or something for the parts if you'd be willing to hold on to them for a few weeks until I'd be able to run down there on a Saturday morning. Please let me know what'll work for you.

jonathan, just got back, i got the one grab handle for ya, its in great condition! also i took a shitload of pics that i will get up in a few hours...bumpers, glass, door panels, dash, gauges all in excellent shape...the front quarters have some lite surface rust and a little bodywork, but depending on what you have now they might be better...it is/was a hondamatic, so no 5 speed parts...but it is pretty much "all there" 12" steelies and spare..i nabbed the little "h" hub caps for my 79 1200 hatchback...you can check out the pics soon and let me know if you have any more questions..oh yeah email me and if you want the handle you can just pay shipping cause they gave it to me free...

Ok, thanks. One other thing I'd want is the two grab handles above the doors, if they're in good shape.

Jamie, check the quarter panels, see if they're rust free or not. If they're not bad, I might be able to run down there and get them one day, Richmond is about 4 hrs away from me on a good traffic day.
Is the CVCC a 5-speed model? If so, there's a few 5-speed parts I'd be looking for.
