Folks,

Thanks again for all your helpful tips and ideas. I gave it a little working over with some Meguiar's #7 "Show Car Glaze" LIGHTLY which removed a good deal of the "dull." Then, a little bit of Pledge furniture polish, it's now good to go. :)

Regards,
Shea:)

Get some real wood veneer. Pre finish and use some contact adhesive. Why mess around with the fake stuff unless you are doing a factory restore? Refinish your steering wheel and shifter knob and it'll be like driving a mercedes.

Shea, have you tried getting another piece from the dealer? Slhondaparts.com showed them as still available, but that doesn't always mean that they can get them. It may be something to think about if yours don't shine up too well.

Thanks for the tips, folks!:)

I'll try out the "Armour All" trick first, if that's a no-go, then it's off to Home Depot for some new "WOOD." :)

Shea:)

Shea

back in the day ... after my mom had used windex to clean the car... the woodgrain was really faded.

I used a bunch of armour all... and it came back like new !!

test a small area first.

Just go to Home Depot, you can get "mac tac" which is basically cupboard liner. it is just peel and stick and there is one that is extremely close to the factory "wood grain". I have it for my lower center console in the convertible.

Hey matey!

Have you thought about checking out your local Home Depot? You might be able to pick up a roll of that wood-effect fablon. It's virtually identical so only a spotter would be able to tell the difference. If the colour's sun bleached out then I'm not sure of anything that can be done to really rejuvenate it.

Folks,

I'm currently working on putting together a dashboard for my '76. I'm just about done dyeing all the "black" areas of the dash. The "woodgrain" strip across the centre of the dashboard inset area is quite faded out, although undamaged otherwise. Does anyone have any good ideas how to bring the fake wood back to a somewhat decent appearance? I had thought that perhaps some plastic polish, etc. MIGHT help remove some of the dullness and bring the colours back...Not sure though. Any of you other folks got any tricks? NOTE: I want to retain the fake wood, NOT replace it with fake carbon fiber, or coloured plastic, etc. Want to keep it looking original. Thanks for any advice you could offer.

Regards,
Shea:)
