I drive my truck way too hard. :-) After 75K miles I have demolished the end links on my sway bar, worn out both lower ball joints, and my radius arm bushings are severely cracked. I just replaced my control arms (necessary to replace ball joint) and the inner bushing was still good (does anybody know a good way to remove one of these). I installed new end links that I got from Summit Racing but I still need new radius arm bushings. The OEM stock bushings are just unacceptable and aftermarket parts are not available yet. So, I’m trying to be creative in my selection of replacement parts. I have a full set of tools and was considering making my own bushings out of polyurethane.
Please advise on what hardness of poly I need to be stronger than OEM yet pliable enough to live with. Or, what is the softest poly that is machineable? What hardness poly does Noltec/Energy etc. use?
Sources – Poly rod on the internet is on the order of $75 foot for 3” stock. Does anybody know of a cheaper source?
Isn’t there a source where I can order a radius arm bushing set based on size specifications like I can with end links?
Note: These maintenance issues are not a statement about the truck quality, but, rather my driving habits. I’m actually impressed with the durability of the truck so far. ’02 Nissan Frontier, 4 cyl, 2wd, king cab.
