Oh I see, I thought it was the early style, I still find it hard to tell the front ends apart unless I'm standing close to it and can see the nose shape. Its always the back ends that give it away

By osminsd@aol.com (68.7.165.149) on Thursday, November 25, 2004 - 02:30 pm:

That green wagon was going so fast, I barely got my camera out and took a photo of it. That's the 1980 model though. Looks like the very early model cause of the roun lights and bumper.

By CVCC x 2 (209.167.61.189) on Thursday, November 25, 2004 - 10:31 am:

The green 80 wagon? That is a factory bumper in north america, 80 was painted body colour with the centre rub strip and rubber ends, 81 was chrome.

By Kyle Thomson (24.83.12.187) on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 - 09:48 pm:

Have any more pics of that green wagon? I'm curious about that front bumper, I don't think we got that style in north america

funny you should ask! Just found myself admiring a 1st gen while driving alongside it in my 1st gen on the 405 near seattle. what made it interesting is that it was the same color as the original coat on mine... sort of a copper/tan. mine has since been painted blue on the outside...

By osminsd@aol.com (198.81.26.75) on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 12:17 am:

Preludes are very rare, but I do see them more often then Civic's. I always honk at a fellow 1st generation owner, even those 2nd generation Civic owners. I have a sticker on my back windshield for my hondamatic wagon, it reads,
"Real men don't midify Honda Civic's"
I get thumbs up and people waving at me. Specialy the ladies. They love seeing my Dachshund riding along with me. Gets them every time. I also like those rare 73 to 77 Toyota Celica's. Fast cars.

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Sunday, November 07, 2004 - 11:44 am:

Shreck, Isn't that a first gen Celica GT?

By Colza (Colza) (219.88.29.223) on Sunday, November 07, 2004 - 12:42 am:

Oh man i LOVE those 1st gen preludes!!! They are SOOO rare in NZ its not funny. I once saw one at a wreckers in fairly good nick and i have been kicking myself ever since i didnt buy it!

I may have seen "bird's" grey civic today. It was heading south down the main drag in Lawnton today at about 11:45 & the driver was wearing a white cap - was that your car bird? I was heading north so I only got a quick look, but it had a late model 'civic' badge on the rear hatch.

Here is a photo I took yesterday on the way to work, 76 Gem Toyota Corolla :)

I know this is not a Honda but I thought some of the Ontario guys might get a kick out of seeing it being how rare old Japanese cars are here.

Calgary sighting.
Saw a black 76(?) trunk model on the Deerfoot today. Alloy wheels and lots of body work. Any one we know?

By osminsd@aol.com (68.7.165.149) on Wednesday, November 03, 2004 - 08:01 pm:

Well, since we're talking about first generations, I just saw and accord and a prelude. I'll post photos later. I liked the Accord and Prelude also. I got a thumbs up from those guys :)

The "Big Rig" Civic would not be hard to miss if you were a frequent visitor to Port Perry, It sat in a driveway at the corner of 7A and Simcoe Street (Regional Rd. 2)
As much as I remember flappy fender was a dirty car and it looked as if it came from an abused home so I never really looked at any details.
Did anyone ever see the yellow and black one that used to be around Ajax about 3-4 years ago, it was a trunk model.

By Shea Laking (Sheaman71) (66.185.85.79) on Thursday, October 14, 2004 - 03:15 pm:

To be honest, guys, I just got a really quick look. I didn't notice a flapping fender, but I only saw the left side and rear of the car (maybe it's the right side fender?). Ed, you may be right also, the wheels "looked" like they might have been six-spokes, but they WERE dirty, may have been just the stock pizza-cutters.:)

Randy, I've never seen the big-rig one, but being in Port Perry, I can honestly say it doesn't surprise me! :p

Shea:)

By shreck (66.185.85.79) on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 08:37 pm:

Shea,
Was one of the fenders flappin in the wind. I saw one last year the same colour going down collins Rd. I did not think it would last by the condition of it.

Has anyone seen the dark blue one in Port Perry that has the big "rig" Transport like chrome bumpers. I swear by the looks of that car it weights a fraction of the bumpers.

By Ed (24.100.5.141) on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 08:23 pm:

That's theh one that I saw in ajax.

the guy said he would never sell it.... but it didn't ahve accord wheels at the time... only stock 12"

By Shea Laking (Sheaman71) (69.192.184.3) on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 04:58 pm:

OK, I saw another one this afternoon, on my way home from work...

A '78 or '79 hatch, the same colour of blue as "H's" car, but dirty and slightly faded looking. Looked like it may have had the six-spoke Accord alloys on it, too. Saw it pulling into the Esso gas station at the NE corner of Bailey St. and the old Pickering Beach Rd. in the East end of Ajax...my stompin' grounds (from pre-school days:)).

Ring a bell to any you might have seen around Ajax, Randy? Maybe we'll have a new local "car buddy" soon!?!:)

Shea:)

By Shea Laking (Sheaman71) (66.185.85.79) on Sunday, October 10, 2004 - 07:48 pm:

Ed,

The green one might very well have been your car...If I remember correctly it was a medium/dark green colour (didn't look "stock" for that car). Looked like it had some kind of mag wheels on it, too.

I only ever saw it once, early on in my five-year "sentance" working at Fraser Ford in West 'Shwa, I watched it drive by one day when I was sitting in my truck on lunch break. I remember thinking "Wow, I haven't seen one of THOSE in a long time!" :)

By CVCC x 2 (64.229.183.48) on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 04:34 pm:

The flares on the orange Civic were purchased from Jackson Racing nearly 25 years ago, they are now long out of production.
Here are a couple more photos of the car.

You might want to ask CVCCx2 it is his car and I have no idea the make of those flares. Angus Buttons flares are for the Gemini Holden if that helps. Has anyone tried VW GTI flares?

2 wagons and 2 hatchbacks running around Tucson. In the land where nothing rusts, I thought there would be more. I have been to every single junkyard and I only found one. In a city of 600,000 I thought there would be more. Still see a some Yugos around. I do have the only one with fresh paint.

By Ed (66.185.85.79) on Thursday, October 07, 2004 - 04:56 pm:

- 2 years ago I saw a red 78 at Canadian Tire in Oshawa. I managed to talk to the guy one day, when I saw it at his house on another occassion. It was rust bucket, that had a 2nd gen, 1500 wedged into it, and went fast.

- 3 or 4 years ago I saw a mint blue 78/79 in Ajax, Ontario while we were waiting in line at Swiss Chalet.

- 3 or 4 years ago, there was a purple 78 civic (originally yellow ) running around Oshawa, that had just arrived from Manitoba. The guy put chrome wheel covers on it, and tried to trick it out with whatever $5 would buy him at Canadian Tire.

- 3 years ago, I saw a 78 1200 in Oshawa. The guy had just arrived from California with it, and was spending some time in rehab. I am not sure what ever happened to that guy, or the car.

- 5 or 6 years ago, there was a blue 78 that was parked at Adelaide and Thornton in Oshawa. They have since moved, because the property was bought by the City, and the house was demolished. I lost track of that one too.

- about 2 years ago, there was a yellow 77 in Whitby, but I am not sure what happened to that one either. the owner's name was Jay. He said he was going to do an engine swap, but once he started tearing it apart , I think he found more road cancer than the car , or budget could bear.

- 11 years ago, there was a MINT 79 parked daily in the IBM / Celestica parking lot in Toronto. I worked there for a summer, but never managed to find out who owned it.

- 3 years ago, there was a fully restored red 77 civic (including all sorts of new parts from the Honda warehouse in Scarborough) I lost track of that guy too. We exchanged stories and info., but ... nothing. It was a gorgeous car. I wonder if that was the one that was posted on ebay recently that was located in Toronto. ???

Shea... I think that green one was a 78 that I bought from a guy in Ajax for $300. (Did it have a rally stripe on it ?? ) I later traded it to an old guy name Reg. He had a 76 yellow civic, with a MINT, and I mean MINT interior that I put in my civic. I also managed to salvage an accessory steering wheel, some rear speaker grills, and some turbine style wheels from the green one before I swapped it.... best $300 I ever spent.

Since I have moved to Chicago, I have not see one (two years). I get stopped once a week to get asked if I want to sell the car. I have had my picture taken on the road while in traffic. So what I am saying in the Chicago area there are not many. I drive it daily and it shows.

By Shea Laking (Sheaman71) (66.185.85.79) on Thursday, October 07, 2004 - 12:12 pm:

Earlier this Summer, I saw Ed's blue '76 on Simcoe St. here in Oshawa-I tried to slow down, duck in behind and follow him to say "HI" but I think the white trash wagon scared him...:)

Of course, I also saw "The Pumpkin" on the streets of lovely Cannington, Ontario, earlier this summer, as well (got to ride in the back seat, that day):)

5-6 years ago, I remember seeing a green one running around Oshawa, too...wonder if it's still around. Of course, there was the one a friend of mine owned/thrashed for awhile back in High School...

One day, I hope to see mine on the road...with TWINS on the way, I think it's gonna take awhile, though.:(

I see mine everyday and my Cousin's too everyday, they are both parked next to each other...and last time I saw one was Friday in Isla Verde (Tourist zone) and that one was the new neighbours. Other than that I saw one in red on the way to pick up my Cousin's when We went to go buy it. And like two months after I saw another one painted copper. Haven't seen any other1s since. :)

Last one I saw was in Oct 2003, lucky I had my camera.

Other than that its been about 5-6 years ago I saw a yellow one just about every week that summer. I saw my neighbour 8 years ago drive one out of his garage next door from under a pile of lumber and park it on the road when he was moving out. I guess they have all gone to Rustys Heaven.

Last Monday at a gas station: good body, some discolored paint, and an original looking owner. They're actually pretty common here in Oregon. There was a cvcc i believe at the wrecker a few months ago...but i'm a 2nd gener myself:)

here in oz you see 'em every so often.
like you andrew, I know where to find other people's civics. some old geezer owns one a couple of streets from mine, and there is one parked at this tire place on the way to university, and then occasionally I see a white one out the front of safeway.

By Kyle Thomson (24.83.12.187) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 06:45 pm:

I see about one a week, but I know of at least 50 in the lower mainland, I still see new ones every month or so

By -Andrew Smit- (Cvcc_Wagon) (154.20.95.104) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 06:40 pm:

i see one nearly everyday. a little blue one with dark window tint parked at a fruit and veggy mart on Hwy 10 in Delta BC. i have also been seeing one at a job site on 64th Av in Surrey that is blue but i think they have moved on b/c it's not been there this week. i also see a dark green one in quite good condition parked in a driveway on 72nd Av west of Scott road a little way. and yes, there is one more that i see in Richmond in a neighborhood just off no. 4 road, yellow with the vinyl top.

By felipe casanova (200.30.231.18) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 05:39 pm:

i see one yesterday

By Jonathan (68.193.6.173) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 01:42 pm:

I saw one in a different state about two years ago. It was a white wagon, didn't get a good look at it, but I think it was a 78/79 model. Other than that, I can't remember seeing one at all. I'm sure I have when I was younger (I vaguely remember my Dad's yellow '76 5-speed, but he sold that in the mid '80's when I was still young), but nothing at all in the past decade or so in my home state.

By KillerB (209.16.211.49) on Monday, October 04, 2004 - 01:12 pm:

When is the last time you have seen another first gen civic on the road?

The last time I saw one on the road was January 29th 2000..it was A really nice white 1200. I have not seen another one since. :(
