I have saved a whole bunch of first gens from Becoming figure eight cars at Western Speedway... I fixed up a couple and sold them.. its nice to see them go to good homes rather then the track.... some of them are just to rusty to save tho... Its kinda cool to see them go out racing then kinda like ending with a big bang In other news I will be starting on my first gen project soon.. gona be pulling it out of storage and spending a lot of money on it this winter yaaa!

Yeah.. I also heard of people doing mini demos in like mint civics. :P I can't imagine doing that.. they're more fun on the street. Nice to see ya again, Jonny. I've seen a few civics in the city recently.

The PNE demos are no more... They ended a few years ago due to conflict between the promoters and the PNE I believe... The rollover contests arent held as much as they used to be.. They are held in the abotsford area by nothern lights motorsports show still I think... I myself have been in a few rollover contests(not in a first gen civic tho couldnt bring myself to do that) I used a second gen for one contest and a 76 corolla for another.. they are pretty insane adrenaline rush... There is a yard near Langley BC that I was at once and the guy had 3 stacks of First gen civics 5 high each... all he was saving for rollover contests he said... very sad site I tell ya.

Now it's coming back to my mind! Yes, I do recalled the times when PNE used to have that derbys while I was a preteen watching these cars go rolling...I do remember seeing many civics used in there. Now I see why they're called "rollover" cars.
Come to think of...unless I'm wrong, the last demontation derby went out in 1985 or 1986? Can't really be sure...but I do love these shows!

he's right, at the PNE in vancouver every year, they have it along with the demolition derby. i saw it a number of years back, the Civics rolled better than the Beetles.

yup, exactly. roll over cars. he's refering to the roll over contests in vancouver where they hit a ramp and count rolls. car IS excelent for this. perfect shape.

Many years ago when I was taking auto appraisal/restoration course rollovers were basically considered a write off just like Jonathan said scrap not worth a penny. When a car rolls there is nothing left to salvage so the car is a write off.

I am almost positive he called them that because of the motorsports we have/had in the area, I used to see them using civics all the time at monster truck shows and demolition derby's. They would drive the cars as fast as they could towards a ramp, hit the ramp with only one side of the car, and see how many times they could make it roll over. Civics lend themselves to this "sport" very well because of their size and shape

I don't think that Civics will actually roll over (and that's coming from a Jeep owner), but he probably meant something else. Maybe something along the lines of they just crush the early Civics as soon as they get them for the scrap steel value, instead of having them take up space in the yard. The yard owners will keep what'll make them the most money, and scrap the rest.

While I was in Vancouver, a buddy and me were on way to check out an old auto yard that I know usually have some old cars in stock. Well, I went up to the deck and told the guy that I'm looking for early Civics to get parts. The guy chucked and said, " they're rollover cars". I glared and reply," they're rollover...what for?" He just shruged and say none in the yard...didn't care to explain why.
Now, I do know what car models are known for rollovers - like early Jeeps, some narrow tall import cars, few others...but Civics?? I don't think I've ever heard them being classifed as that way. Do you heard such as that in statement?
I believe it's not because of the designs are alway in blame, it's because in most of times the idiot drivers go too fast doing turns or whatever to cause their cars go "rollover". Just my 2 cents...
