There is an aluminium spacer between the main and helper springs (bit hard to see in the picture) that keeps them sitting correctly relative to each other. As soon as the weight of the car is on the suspension the helper runs flat (these do anyway as they are very soft).
It's a relatively common configuration.

Will it stay? it seems like the springs would slide hoizontal?

Here is a link to my old struts they do fine but since the two wheels on one side got 5 ft in the air one front wont adjust.

Don, are you allowed to run adjustable spring seats? If so, how about small helper spings to take up the slack at full droop?

Oh Ok I see now! I have gen 1 Konis still but sending them in to be converted to external adjustable is about $350 Ea if I supply the Koni insert. I know you can graft a Rabbit strut tube onto the 1200 casing and use the VW race insert but then you have to do something to keep the spring captured at full droop.
Thanks for the info!

The Tein, strut was 5" longer than the 1st gen :( and for the price, it wasen't worth modifing.. the kyb insert works well for a street application. But for track use, I'm not sure :( I'll look thru the application guides to see if I can find a insert that is suited better for race applications.

I'm a little confused :)
So the tein struts from a 92 didn't work? So now you are doing vw inserts? I thought there were no vw race strut inserts (only street type Kyb's and bilsteins) that were small enough to slide into a honda strut casing?

Great Justin, I appreciate all of your efforts. Looking forward to those pics.

Don/Phil, I haven't taken the pics yet.. he said the casing is just too long to work properly. I'm dealing with my machine shop, and they are actually threading the '78 casing and then making a insert cap to hold the vw insert. they are also making the adjustable spring perches. I've also come across a spring shop that will build the springs. Once it's coming together I'll post some pics :)

Junior, give me a email, the harness is pretty much done!

Hey Justin, how are you doing? How's my wiring coming along? Should I start a new wiring? Let me know. Thanks for the help.

Don/Fireball Phil.. I'm going to see him on Monday, I'll see what he has come with and let you guys know :)

Justin, if Don doesn't mind, I would like to find out the same information. I am about to re-start my ITC project and the suspension was a major weak point on the car when I had it 2 years ago.

Thanks, Phil

I was remembering you mentioned once about your friend doing a strut conversion using Tein struts.

If you wouldn't mind e-mailing me I would like to ask you some questions about the conversion?

I'm wondering about new struts and looking into options but I'm trying to keep the spring captured as my car seems to like running on two wheels quite regularly lately.
My web page is www.autoracer.net

Thanks!
