Hey Don, Justin, or anyone else out there. Have you had any experiance knocking the outer joint off and replacing it with a new one?

Yeah, that makes sense. Cheers andrew :)

I will hopefully be able to track some knuckles down over here. The idea of internationally shipping something as heavy as knuckles isnt overly appealing. But cheers for the offer, i will keep it in mind :)

If an aftermarket one works for both, that only means that they have modified the design so that it will work with both.

The main problem with using EB CVs with an EN hub is that the machine edged at the base of the EB shaft digs into the splines on the EN hub, causing damage to the splines and preventing you from properly tightening the whole assembly (ie the bearings aren't properly tightened and the wheel will wobble).

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. If you want any help with the 4x100 swap I'll probably be doing it a second time on some wagon knuckles I got off eBay (if they ever arrive) and could provide photos.

I may also be selling my converted non-wagon knuckles... which could be an option for you.

Maybe EN outer will work in EB hub, but EB outer will not work with EN? So you can have one of them that works with both but it has to be the right one?

Bruce:
Dont worry this was just playing around with spares in my shed. Im just sussing out the ol' 4x100 :)

I got two new outer CVs fitted by a local shop and their catalog listed the eb and en civics as using the same aftermarket cv. Would an en outer cv work properly in an eb hub? This is the only reason I can think that the catalog lists what it does.

ok here is the deal, the splines on the outer cv joints are slotted the same, but the distance the splines run up the outer shaft are different, not by very much but they are, not letting the shaft seat completly into your bearing. the hubs, outer cv joints and the bearing have to be a matching set. I have been trying to beat this into a friends brain for 2 weeks now, he still does not get it, hence he is again tearing down the front end of his 75 wagon to try to fix it.

No the spline is what your worried about. If you want to mess up your car and end up tearing it back apart latter then dont listen.

Really? These look pretty good...

Dont the wheelbearings come for 73-83 civics? And its the wheelbearings which have the recieving splines isnt it?

By Adrian (Evocivic) (203.42.97.141) on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 07:57 pm:

They don't fit properly. Yes they slide in but the splines don't mesh quite right.

I just put some EB driveshafts into some EN hubs. I thought you couldnt do that! Dont people swap their outboard cv joints for a reason? These just slotted in perfectly?! Am i just really confused...
