Colza,
I've done this mod, and yes you can use 2Nd gen wagon drums, but you have to have material welded to the area where the inner bearing fits(on the axle stub) and then have it turned down to the proper size. Then you have to turn down the area on the axle stub where the outer bearing rides. No heavy machine work here, but it cost me all told 125.00US to have mine done. The gain is, 4x100mm bolt pattern, 20% larger rear brakepad surface, and it is on a larger radius which also adds to the gain in terms of leverage, and finally better self adjusters, in that they actually work. It is worthwile, but to be truthful I think for all the expense and hassle it is wiser to pursue the rear disc setup like Justin has on both his and Twylas cars. It is less custom modification and I have to believe an even greater improvement, even at the risk of increased unsprung weight.

Cheers for that. Dont think ill bother then, redrilling it is :) To get the studs out of the drum do you just whack em really hard?

mods are required. The inner bearings have a slightly larger bore and the outer a slightly smaller bore so the stub axles must be modified to suit. Adrian is the man to ask as he has done this to his car. I believe he also used a 5mm spacer plate in between the stub and the drum backing plate as the 2g drum isn't as tall as the 1g.

The ~1984 accords also have a drum that should be able to be swapped on in a similar fashion. This would be a more difficult swap as it uses a different handbrake setup.

I was playing around with the drums on the back of my EB today. I nearly tried putting on the drums from my 2nd gen hatch, till i realised they were the same size and there wasnt much point. Do the 2nd gen wagon 4x100 drums (which are bigger) bolt on? Or is there some modification required?
