A B-18 will fit although just barely. 1/2" clearance to left side frame rail 1/2" clearance to firewall(w/mod) and just enough room for the exhaust. Still haven't figured what to do with the radiator(box front or put behind back seat. I am using the b-18 out of a 91 Integra. I moved the suspension arm connections out 1" and then was able to bolt in the front subframe from the integra. Took the front subframe cut in half and boxed it in. Am in the process of building the mounts from subframe to rame rail.
So it will fit if you have the inginuety and tools to mod things. Definetly not a straight bolt in though. I will post pics whem I can.

The B16 is sitting under the balcony We just bought a house, so I moved all of the contents of the shop to the house, I've been so busy working on upgrades to the house, that I haven't had a chance to touch a Honda

"i've gotz some grey hair now (25yrs old)"
That's funny that you said that because my wife was pulling grey hair out of my head left and right the other day...just for FUN! She said she was helping ME out. *ouch! ouch! ouch!* Women, whew... oh yeah, I just turned 25 on the 6th =)
Justin, how far along are you with the B16? Is the D16A1 still in your wagon right now? If I had a little more $, I would've went with the B16 also...but no regrets. There is always time, I'm still young haha.

i'm actually only angry at that one guy in tiwan w/ the jun b16...other wise...geeezzeee i'm only angry that i was working 6days a week 12 hr's for the past 9 months, promotion to salt lake city which sucked, and another move within 2 months to las vegas....trust me i've gotz some grey hair now (25yrs old).
New job starts soon...wagon will be done complete and on to the next one
another line of coke.....snnnnniffffffffff..........k....
naa i just wish that in this age of technology when people do really cool stuff they would document it better. like my friend who is doing a Rx7 5.0...he's taking pictures like its a new born.
Look at most of the cvcc sites, they are fairly limited to the amount of material on swaps and other things.
p.s anyone know what happened to that fiberglass one peice front end. I don't remember who was selling it up in washington, but i'd love to know what happened to it.

I'm joking about the K20... if i was going to go extreme, I would go with a C20 or C32 and go mid engine, rear drive, it would be cheaper than a K20... but alas the B16 with nos will be the one to go in(since I already have it all )

Justin, if you're going for a K20a in a frist gen, i bid you good luck, b/c my buddy as already tried it... you will most likely need a tubed front end.
what was my buddies solution to that problem? he just mounted the K20 in the middle of the car...

"well dammit for the people doing the B16 swap and i do mean people like JUSTIN...freaking take more then 5 pictures....hell i'll host them ya lazy son's of picture takers"
Are we a little angry at someone? I didn't know there was that many people doing the B16 swap?! Are you planning on doing the same thing Chris? I'm in modesto, california if you need any help. But I've never done a B-series swap except for a GSR into a 93 hatch (but that doesn't count, it's newer and much easier) =)

Thanks for the comments. I'm running 3 mounts, there is only 3 on the 1gen integra D16A1 and this type of ZC. I don't have any torque steer whatsoever because it uses an intermediate shaft and there's only 1" of difference in the length of the axles. I had them custom made by Frank from www.driveshaftshop.com He makes ALL KINDS of axles. He's done two sets for me now and never had any problems with them, you see I put the same engine in my friend's '77 accord hatchback. But I think I know how he did it! The inner part of the shaft is from a 2nd or 3rd gen accord (hollow shafts) and the outter part is from well, obviously the tried and true 4x100 conversion 2nd gen civic. I know how to weld, but something like an axle, I think I'd prefer someone with a little more experience to do the work for me. Plus, I do drive my family around it this wagon and I would hate to have one of my custom "lay-welded" axles to come apart. lol
I'm sure you'll get your car running before the end of this year, well I sure hope you have lots of luck on your side. What's holding you up?
And yes, I'm from California - Modesto to be exact.

yup, i have a b16 going in... its in the works, i hope to have it running by the end of the year..
nice pics!! mounts look nice, how many are you running?, everything looks very factory! those axles look so short!! any torque steer?
i love it all. are you from cali?

Runs great of course =P I built it, haha. Starts and runs strong like a Honda should everytime! Yes, it's "still" fuel injected - I think that's the whole idea of a swap right? I'm running the '86-87 integra ECU - this type of ZC is basically the same engine and the D16A1. Ask me how I know - please. Ok ok my 1st car was a '87 integra 5door. I had it for 6 years and loved that thing, I put 2 ZC's in there without any problems whatsoever and even replaced the tranny once, guys check you trans fluid ;-) It's not cool to have 5th gear blow out on the freeway going 90 and have to drive home in 4th gear - but it makes for easy passing people lol.
lilbucu, don't you have a b16 stuffed into a 1st gen? Or was that someone else?
Anyways, more pics here, I may add new ones every now and then or if someone wants any pictures in particular just let me know, I try my best to help out.

"eheh wiring means nothing...look for the TDC on a zc it sits infront of the distributor. thats the main indicator its not, but still ....people if your going to take pictures..don't use a cell phone"
Adding to Chris's post: Here's what a 86-87 ZC from a Japanese 1g integra looks like sitting inside of my 1978 wagon =) Basically the sme engine as the USDM 1g integra's D16A1 but with slightly more HP. Hopefully this link works.

Its a b18a-obd1 you can tell by the wiring, dizzy, valve cover and intake.

Yeah.. I definitely think it's a cvcc.

honestly it looks like a zc motor in there, i wish that the owner that did that would have taken some better pictures becasue those ones look like ...rap

The B18 Civic appears to be a CVCC, not a 1200 (as mentioned on the webpage). At least a CVCC has a couple more inches of engine compartment.

running the D-series tranny, the '78 pass. axle will work fine. on the driver's side, the inboard joint from the '88 and newer D series must be used(longer shaft than the original) but the problem lies in the internal section, the early shafts are a 6 ball(and cage combo) ans the later are 3 bearings. What I came up with was using a '78 inboard, cutting the shaft out in a hex form, and then doing the same on the '88 inboard and pressing the two together and then weld it up. Mo and Peter's car both have this set-up and they work great... I'll take pics soon
By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:14 pm: |
A d-series will be your best bet if you want vtec. The hard parts are fuel lines, wiring harnesses, injection harness, motor mounts(obviously), and shift linkage. The axles fit right up, at least on second gens, but I think that goes for 1st gens too. Just make sure to use the earlier(88-91) cable clutch tranny. This is just from what I've seen around here. I've never done a swap, so I'm more than willing to be corrected by someone who does know. Do a search for this stuff, there's plenty of info archived(or at least ther used to be) on this site. Good luck!
