A thread for front disc brakes

Civic1200 Discussion Board: : A thread for front disc brakes

No plm, Kyle it's not you that's flaming me just that I don't want more of the guys adding up at me. Yeah I can see this board isn't exactly a good place for any saved threads.

I've already went to the other site Colza pointed to. I see a good article on front brakes but will need a bit of arranging in order so I can follow step by step. I'll copy the whole shebang and put them in order for myself in print.

Looks like I might have to look for some early civic wagon brake parts when I'm ready to do that. In here, there isn't even one wagon anywhere I know of, lol!

Canada76civic - Don't take what I am saying as flaming you, I didn't mean it to offend you at all. But I did have to correct you otherwise people in the future would take what you said as the truth, and that causes problems. We've already had someone on the board spend a good deal of money on parts that wouldn't work because of mis-information.
I like the idea of having a good list on what works and what doesn't, but unfortunatly the design of this board doesn't allow for stuff to be stickied to the top, so its all rather futile. New members hardly ever use the search function anyhow
What normally happens when people ask about this stuff is we just point them the way of the web page Colza listed below, its got more than a few good tech write ups, and they are always there to find
no hard feelings?

You could go to www.firstgencivic.com where everything is on a newer board with an easier to use search function. It also has articles written up by members here on the specific topics you are interested in :)

Ok, so I was wrong in saying that the 2G Civics were using the same pattern as 1G do. As you should know I'm kinda new to Honda Civics,ok? I've been an American car nut for years so I do know lot more than what I know about Civics. So I'm truly am learning as I go along.

Adrian, you are right about what you said about threads being beaten to death is that each thread on a certain topic...gets buried deep down here!

That, I believe is the problem with this forum - I suppose something should be worked out somehow. But I'll leave that to the webmaster.

I think the thread should stop right now as of the moment. Bad idea - I do NOT wish to be flamed out nor start any agurement. If I need to ask questions about brakes I need for my car...I'll just start a new thread whenever in the future.

Therefore the thread is closed now. I aprogize to everyone here - sorry.

oh I wasn't saying we didn't know what parts we need for the 4x100, we've all seen lists before, I've done the swap to MY car, I KNOW what parts are needed.
What I said below is that you were wrong about the bolt pattern on the 2nd gen civics. You said "All 1G and 2G Honda Civics uses 4 x 120 stud pattern originally". That is incorrect

By Adrian (Evocivic) (203.42.97.141) on Wednesday, December 08, 2004 - 06:28 pm:

I might not have made myself too clear a couple of posts down. There are heaps of cars that use 4x100 so WHEELS are easy to come by.
The parts to make the brakes fit come from quite specific models (I refuse to list them YET AGAIN).

By Adrian (Evocivic) (203.42.97.141) on Wednesday, December 08, 2004 - 06:22 pm:

The problem is this info HAS been beaten to death ... MANY times before. Just starting another thread about it isn't going to help as it'll just vanish down the list after a while.

It's all there if you just do some searching ...

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Wednesday, December 08, 2004 - 06:12 pm:

Not at all, Kyle...as you can see from other posts that we're now seeing which cars we need for 4x100 stud pattern. Any new posters in the future can check that thread to find out what they need for their cars. It's for everyone here for our benefit.

This way, we don't have to "beat the same old thread to death" again. Makes sense,no?

Now, the next question is which caliber (sp?), rotor, sturt...whatever parts is required for front brakes can be used for 1G civics?

I'm taking notes so I can hunt for parts for my car and the local junkyard does have many early Honda/import cars with lots of brake parts. Thanks!

4x120: 73-79 Civic, 76-81? Accord, Coupe 7 & 9, Mazda RX5 or 6 (can never remember which but as they are rare as hens teeth and RWD, thus wrong offset, probably not even worth bothering with).

4x100: 80-current Civic, 80s Accords (early 90s some went to 4x114.3), Integras, Most preludes (Preludes never used 4x120), CRX etc. etc. Most small Japanese cars use 4x100 so there are HEAPS of them around.

By Kyle Thomson (24.83.12.187) on Wednesday, December 08, 2004 - 07:23 am:

You may want to start a new thread then =)
The second gen civics use 4x100, not 4x120
first gen civics 73-79, most first gen accords (76-81), some very ealr mazdas (RX2? RX3?) and I'm not sure about the early preludes

Also, I forget to add:

What Honda models have 4 x 100 stud pattern? Thanks.

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Wednesday, December 08, 2004 - 06:44 am:

Hi all, I have thought for awhile about the talks on front disc brakes. I realized that it should be a good place for anyone who's not familiar with the set-up of disc brakes. This thread here - I'm going to try see if we can't build a good thread focusing on front brakes. Anyone who had expeience before, would you be willing to share your thoughts here?

That far what we now know:

All 1G and 2G Honda Civics uses 4 x 120 stud pattern originally. I don't know about other early Honda models (Predule, Accord, ??)...do you know anything?

The purpose of the thread is to help all of us to find better methods to make our front brakes more safer, better...or even keep them stock as is! Let's list what parts works and what doesn't work for our Civics. Any ideas to share with are welcome. I'd like to see it all on one thread than looking for so many threads on same topic, lol! :)

So...what do you think about here? Thanks.
