Crank the wheel all the way to the right/left, and drive in reverse. You could have someone stand there and listen, however, the noisy one is usually the outside wheel.

Depends on the age of the car.. just get under there and check the boots.. if there are cracks in either of them, renew the driveshafts/cv joints as a set. I've found that usually it's a good idea to do the brakes, rotors, wheel bearings and inner/outer seals while you're down there.

One (or more) of my CV joints is starting to make some noise, especially while turning under power.
All the boots are still good, so I am wondering if there is a "trick" for determining which one is bad. (Without having to disassemble and inspect!)
Is it normal to just replace both driveshafts when one starts to go?
