They are still here if you still want the quarters come on down and cut them off for the price we agreed.

Well, it's offical that the meet is gone for that date. What about the parts cars you mentioned...what will you do for them? If you'd recalled that I was seeking for body panels, I still do...with great interest!
How about we do offsite and talk by e-mail? I'm sure there must be something that'd work out for the mutural interest in both sides. Thanks!

Richard What are you talking about? You posted this last week right?
"So.. . I guess that fizzled down to like 2 people :P oh well . I guess I'll work on the car that weekend if no one's going.. I'd love to go for a cruise sometime soon in the Honda.. I just got her running nicely again.. maybe even a quick vancouver meet sometime in Feb would be fun. "

The trophies will be recycled due to they have glued on engraving so a screwdriver took care of that. They will be redone and given to SSCC

I'll be there no matter the date or location. I'd prefer Don's as he has put in so much effort. I'm watching daily and waiting for dates, then I'll confirm I am attending once role call is needed.
Don't think we can only do 1 gathering. We're setting up a gathering in Wetaskiwin, Alberta June 11-12 at the Reynolds Museum ( http://www.machinemuseum.net/secondary/programs_events/history_road.htm ) and don't forget about May 20-23 in Kelowna, BC.

It's so tough getting everyone together but well worth the effort. The gathering at Rocky Mt. Nat'l Part a couple of years ago was over 1 year in the making. It was well worth the effort. Do anything you can to make it, I'm sure it will be a blast!
By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Monday, January 24, 2005 - 07:05 pm: |
Hmmm, that doesn't leave much of us making the drive.
If were going to call it off lets try and set another weekend. Sounds like it will be a good turn out if we can agree on a date. Definitely enough interest.
By Sue (64.12.116.199) on Monday, January 24, 2005 - 02:26 pm: |
Sorry Don, we can't make it either.
Too cold and rainy this time of year. The top for the convertible is in pretty poor shape and none of my other 1st gens are running right now. If the meet were held later in the year, say late spring or early summer, we'd probably be able to come.
For anyone wanting to meet here in Portland, our shop is always available.

So is anyone going to show? Just wondering because if not I'm going to part out the CVCC on e-bay. It has mags, deluxe guages, floor console, chrome shifter, Wood wheel in need of refinishing, Rear defroster, Roof rack ....all rust free panels. I would rather have someone pick up all this stuff rather than ship it so prices are lower in person.
By Don (63.135.203.8) on Thursday, January 20, 2005 - 09:38 pm: |
So back to the subject. I would hate for the few that still want to drive from BC to arrive and they be the only ones. That would Suck. There are no dates on the trophies (I should have stuck with my gut and learned by now). So we could postpone it, but after march its pretty hectic. Yes the building is heated...Question from Randy's site. I got a line on a straight rust free cvcc with mags. I have to go back next week and talk to the owner. People who arrive get fists dibs.... on parts. I have not pursued the hotels or anything further becase of the unknowns....I dont like making promises then have no one show.

I don't think I'd be able to make the trip - I can't get time off from work (I'd need Thurs and Fri in order to make the trip possible). Getting my car ready by Feb 19 would be a miracle.
A long weekend might be good for me. I wish good luck to all other guys who can do amd make for the meet there.
I'll watch for any new updates here...

By Ted (63.224.195.169) on Thursday, January 20, 2005 - 10:55 am: |
I cant say enough about our meeting during a race weekend. There is nothing cooler than watching a first gen race and beat newer cars. Plus the atmosphere in the paddock is so much more rich! Other non-civic drivers will be very interested in a group of us for sure. Anyway, my vote would be to wait until a weekend where we can gather, talk, race and hang. Don, do you know what the SSCC race schedule is for 2005? The site didn't list it yet.

Well, with all this going on now, Don, can we postpone this till a long weekend? I hate to ask but with all the people not able to get the time off maybe it would be best. I'm sorry to have brought this up but maybe wait for warmer weather and a long weekend.
Cheers,

it's about 900km away.. that takes about 15 hours with lots of stops.. if we leave friday night and take a rest stop for an hour or two, we'll be there by Saturday morning.. Portland would be fun too, but I really want to get way the hell outta dodge. Portland is about 500km, if there's gonna be a huge attrition of numbers, though it may be better to meet there. I really hate to disappoint Don, who set all this up from the beginning. :/

I guess I'm gonna have to bail on this one. I'm just not that insane I guess. I just don't think its worth 20+hours of driving just to spend half a day with a bunch of people that live in the same province as me. I know there will be a few people I haven't met yet that I really would like to meet, but it'll have to be some other time. Maybe a long weekend later on in the summer..

Geez, everything went quiet all of a sudden. I'm just waiting for the BC people to decide as well so I know when I have to get there to meet up, then travel down to "said" destination together. Well if we are gonna stick with don's shop, the friday night drive isn't going to work. Unless we start later sat so that we can do some driving in the morning as well. So who can get friday off as well? maybe an early morning start would give us the time we'll need?
By -Andrew Smit- (Cvcc_Wagon) (154.20.95.104) on Friday, January 14, 2005 - 09:49 pm: |
so far so good. i've rigged up my EM1 block heater onto the back of the engine. it sits against the block just below the metal water pump feed so it provides heat in the general area of the carbs on the cold start, also keeps the block warm obviously. driving is fine too, they perform just as they did in the warmer weather or better.
By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Friday, January 14, 2005 - 09:03 pm: |

I'm out of vacation days To make the weekend I'm already switching days with someone else just to have sat. and sun. off, that's why I would prefer Portland, spend more time with other civic owners and less time driving

Hi everyone. Ted called me today and told me you were interested in a Civic meet in Portland. Tom and I would love to have it at our shop again this year. You can discuss anything you want. I may have indeed jumped the gun. I thought that when no one spoke up for a few days and people started sending me pictures they had ACTUALLY read were they were headed.. my mistake. I did realize the drive that's why I got the trophies made and was trying to make it worth while. I do realize the problem for the people who cant take time off work, at this point there are people who would probably want it further south too so the Cali guys can get involved.
I will be at my shop on the 19th hope you can make it if not I understand.
By Kyle Thomson (24.83.12.187) on Thursday, January 13, 2005 - 07:28 pm: |
I don't think we all agreed that it would be at your shop, we all seemed fine with the date, but I thought the location was still undecided. I think you may have jumped the gun by assuming that we all would be able to make it that far. I don't kow if I have the extra time off that I would need, if we all left friday night, it would take till 3-5am to get there, sleep for a couple hours, have the meet, and then start driving home again. I don't see why we can't at least discus having it in portland

Most of the plans have been made and Don has done a lot of leg work. I say we just keep it as is. I'm travelling from Edmonton Thurs to meet up with the BC crew for the Friday night run. I also took Monday off so I don't have to leave till mid day Sunday.
Just my 2 cents and I will go with anything that's decided. My little guy doesn't go that fast, especially if I hit a head wind - will drop me down to 90km/hr from my 110/120km norm.

Hmm thats a lot farther than I thought it was going to be. I'm still going to vote for portland, it seems like at least half of the people wanting to go are from BC (surprise surprise=) and since most people seemed like they wanted to head down after work friday. I don't think we're all gonna be able to pull an allnighter. Portland just seems like it would be fair? considering where everyone is coming from.

I would like to join you guys but the iglo is frozen solid around my car and I can't see it thawing till March. 160km that's my kind a speed but my car can only hit that speed on the down hill grad on the coqihalla as for as the gas who cares? SPEED IS FUN . Make sure have Kurt lead the pack as he might be able to talk his way out of a ticket. I did last week.
Make in March ???? Dana

I don't really want to push the car too much.. (120-140km/hr) 60-70 mph (speed limit) should be fine.. The car can do 80-90mph, but wide open like that it gets poor gas mileage... just depends on how big the caravan is..

10 hours is a little high. i drove to central cali. last year (east of san fran) and it took me 14 hours and that's almost twice the distance. mapquest told me it would take me 24 hours to drive to Moose Jaw SK, i did it in 18.
i'm up for meeting where ever. i live in richmond and work in surrey so i'm halfway to anywhere. are we still planning on doing a friday night run? what time does everyone want to meet?

I have been updating my web site a bit http://www.autoracer.net and I would like to do an upcomming event page and list peoples names that are planning on showing along with a SMALL picture of your car (e-mailed). Nice looking ones prefered as my idea is to try and drum up some attention from the local media, but clunker pictures are welcome too.

Wow this is going to be cool so how many people are planing to show. I was thinking if there was enough then I might ask a local tuner shop to come in on the deal and maybe kick in a few things for prizes. I was allready going to donate a Noltech engine mount kit. I havent decided if it should be a drawing or if it should go to the person with the furthest drive. I was also thinking of trying to scoop up some non running gen 1's from the area, but we will have to see if their owners want them gone.

Mid to late Feb is fine, I'll be coming down from Edmonton, AB - about 1270 miles to Medford, or less if Portland is chosen. Makes no difference really.
Cheers

It's too bad this Extravaganza can't be heald in Northern California. It would be a good mid point for the west coast. There's lots of Civic owners in California, Nevada and Arizona. I was looking at a map and measuring distances, the ideal west coast spot is Santa Rosa, California. Still, I think perhaps the meeting should be heald closer to where more people can attend, so if there's alot more people comming from the northern states, then by all means, have it in Porland. It's beautiful there. San Francisco would have been a nice place to meet though. I'm in San Diego, so I have a long drive no matter what.

By Tor (63.146.72.66) on Monday, January 03, 2005 - 10:33 am: |
Not sure if my engine swap would be done by then. Is it OK to show up in my Porsche? Even if my car is not ready I would love to check out others and any parts that might be for sale.
I am in California and would love for it to be on a weekend in Eugene.

Getting my Civic done by Feb (which week?) might be dicey for me. Unless I have enough off-time and $$ for the trip. It's 50/50 chance for me but I'm up for a try! That is a 20-hour drive each way roughly so I'm hoping for a long weekend...but in Feburary? Let's see and wait...keep on whatever you guys are ironing out for that event.
By Zauster (198.53.172.32) on Sunday, January 02, 2005 - 06:22 pm: |
As long as the weather is decent, I should be able to travel down from Edmonton, Alberta. As noted, Feb is best for me as well (Hopefully my seats will be done by then).
By Don (199.2.139.150) on Sunday, January 02, 2005 - 12:41 pm: |
Well Febuary would be cool for me too. I would have time to get my car done so I can see what extras I have.
The first one in Eugene we were at a un freindly wreckers With no cover ....Portland is cool with me but the facilities????? Thats why I was thinking my shop We dont have to worry about getting chased away (lol) and its 1/2 mile off the freeway. It looks like the Cali guys are quiet so far and the BC guys are out in force. So anybody going to step up from Portland / Vancouver Wa and host this thing?

I think its because the person who started the thread called it an "Extravaganza!" =)
anywhere would be fine with me, we're already driving all the way down from BC, whats another couple hours? but I would prefer it to be in like Febuary or something, so I can get some money saved up, and have my car back on the road
By Don (199.2.139.197) on Sunday, January 02, 2005 - 11:53 am: |
Well I was thinking something local so me and frito could get together and sell some parts but it looks like this has taken on a life of its own. Spring and Summers are bad for me, Racing and business boom and all. You guys are free to organize something to meet your needs and I will try and make it when or were ever.

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 10:32 pm: |
Ha, I'd have to agree with Mike...tax time season should work after most of us get our rebates.:D Also, by that time come around I'd have my civic ready for trips in spring.
By mike (67.183.6.41) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 10:00 pm: |

Makes no difference to me, after march it gets iffy because I'm racing on certain weekends. I will e-mail Frito and see if he has a preference.
By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 05:57 pm: |
Don, what dates do you have in mind for the meet?
By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 05:41 pm: |
Is it alright if my 2nd gen shows up? I've got a custom silver sedan w/ EK. I live in Ashland, so if it's in the valley, I'll definitely make the jaunt. I think it's set alright for a trip to Eugene or PL anyways. I think Portland is around 5hrs away, cause Salem's 4 hrs. I make those trips WAY too much! but i still enjoy them
By Don (199.2.139.195) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 01:36 pm: |
I never made a control arm I had bearings put in my stock control arms. I made a aluminum tube engine stay maybe thats what you read?
By mike (67.183.6.41) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 11:40 am: |
oh sorry. Lower control arms = LCA. i saw a post that said you made an adjustable tubular design rather than the stockers. Looked real nice. man this civic is going to be my downfall. Ive treid to keep my composure of the years and ever so often i venture back get sucked right back up. Its a disease!!!
By mike (67.183.6.41) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 11:29 am: |
not sure how soon you where thinking but if I get fritos car we could make it that day so im down there anyway. You could show me how to improve on the roll cage. and I could show off the new car. HAHA i saw the post about adrians car. OOHHHHH PRETTY. Thats if I get the car. i havent heard either way yet. Sounds like a blast though
By Don (199.2.139.231) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 06:04 am: |
Mike havent you ever been to a swap meet? You dont plan how much to bring thats what the ATM is for. LCA whats that? Frito has most of my used stuff but I have some other items, Koni's, strut housings, hoosier dot race tires, Poly engine bushings, possibly some other stuff. The strut tops are custom made. We can meet up where ever. I remember the 1st one we met at a Wrecker in Eugene (lol) they thought we were squatters . Oh I think there might have been another in Portland that I missed so this might be the 3rd one? Portland is about 4 hrs from my shop, only 3 to Eugene. I dont know the date thats what you guys can decide. When and where.
By mike (67.183.6.41) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 01:28 am: |
how much should i bring. How far south is eugene that portland. thats a travel.
By Mike (67.183.6.41) on Saturday, January 01, 2005 - 01:27 am: |
don what kind of 1st gen civic stuff do you have. I cant seem to find anything on the site relsting. Ive followed you for about 4 years and cant believe a person can have so much knowledge and not look so old. Thats a complement nt an insult. Anyway. i noticed att one point you had strut tops? Whatever there called. Do you still make the LCA for the civic out of tubular? Man If one person could emulate another! I cant wait to meet you. Dont know if the 1st gen would make it but the accord would.
