It could also be a bad head. EB3's were bad about cracks developing between the valves because there is so little area between them. Anyone building an EB3 should be on the lookout for this during the buildup. Usually this only manifests itself during warm up and then becomes only a slight sputter once warm, but this will still suck your rings out in short order. Also did you port the head? Careless(overzealous) work here could lead to water in the combustion chambers...You just can't tell until you take it apart. I wouldn't bust down the bottom end though until I was sure it is not a head, or headgasket problem.

cracks in the cylinder walls or water jacket might do that too.. did you bore the motor out a great deal?

Lay a "true" straight edge on the block and then the head. It sounds like something as simple as the deck warped

The only thing modern about the 1G Civic is the Recaro out of my old CR-X as well as a proper 5pt harness. Everything else is original.

I haven't posted anything new on either Hybrid, the B16A or the SB1 page in years. That factory Mugen Civic ended up in So. America last I heard - that's where the pics were taken. The 1G with the B16A is just a pic some person emailed to me a while back.

sorry i can't help you out with your problem but i remember seeing a picture 1st gen civic floating around the intenet with a handful of modern parts on it (like a recaro bucket seat). was that yours?

i've been to your site but its not any of the ones pictured on your site. and by the way, do you have any info on the orginal mugen civic? it looks to be in pretty sad shape, is someone restoring it? and whats the story with the b series 1st gen? sorry for all the questions.

Let's see if memory serves me right...
EB3 block freshly bored out for Venolia forged versions of '78 Goldwing 1200cc pistons w/new rings, all of this with a fresh "big valve" cylinder head. 4-1 header, pair of 35mm DHLBs, etc

Built and torqued according to Honda torque specs, but only lasted about 3-4hrs then cut out without a bang or knock or anything - felt like throttle cable had been cut.

Pulled it apart only to find a lot of coolant in #1, a little in #2, none in #3 or #4. I haven't yet pulled pistons and rods out of the block to check condition of the rings.

Its previous owner whom i bought it from dis-assembled raced it in SCCA and estimated it made almost twice the power as the stock '73 motor did, but I have no cold hard facts to prove this.

Ideas? Suggestions?
