Header?

Civic1200 Discussion Board: : Header?

just wondering how much of a difference as far as volume does putting a header on these cars make? I know my mazda it made quite a bit of noise difference from a small electric motor noise to a really loud chainsaw on crack. but also in removing stock manifold which was literally a box and removing the 3 cats I can understand why it made a big difference

or would the sound difference as well as volume not be that bad?

Hey, sorry I took up so much space. Hay now I'm taking up more.

I've given up trying to find headers for the 1200. Instead I'll have them custom made by a freind of mine. First I'll get the plate cut from a local machine shop that said they'ed do it for a hundred bucks. Second I'll go to my friends shop to have the pipes bent and welded.
I;ll be using stainless steel and will possibly have them ceramic coated. Also I was thinking, what the hell , We'll design them like the old Jackson Racing headers coming through the front grille and bending in between the nose and the bumper.. Come to think of it , I'm glad I never found any headers, cause I've always wanted the JR's...
The moral of this story is: If you can't buy it, get creative and make it the way you want it... In this case I would make it myself if I had a plasma cutter, welder, and a pipe bender.

No not the shorty. The one I have is working great! It's the two piece design. I've had it on my car for 12 years and I really like it.

The shorty thunderbird header?
That was the worst header ever for the 1200!

There is a custom header company close to where I normally live. I just sent them an e-mail asking about coppying my old thunderbird header. I will see what response I get. I was looking at newer Honda headers on eBay and they are selling pretty cheap. That's what I was looking at for a doner.

i did something like that for my EK. i would imagine it would be easier for the 1200 as all newer hondas are crossfolow and have a similar design. get a measuring tape and visit your local wrecker. i cut the stock cast iron header to use the flange however it would be more reliable to get a flange made with the same pattern as the stocker as welding to cast iron is always iffy on reliability (ie cracking) so far mine has held up even with it hitting the fire wall for about 1000 miles worth. having a flange cut with a waterjet or whathaveyou may be pricey tho,

Why not see if there is enough interest to warrant another run of headers from S&S? or another company. The original run was like 180 for the base header you will spend more for a header from another car then you have to make it work.

Yeah, I'd like to know something about one from other cars that'd work on a 1200 engine! I've been wanting to get a RS header or something like S&S header.

I need one for street driving in my car.

Will watch for anything to come up here - any idea welcome!

Has anyone ever compared other headers from other cars to see if there might be one close enough to fit our first Gen 1200 civics? It seams like we might find a 4-2-1 that would have similar port distances. I made my own 2-1 for my RS manifold using mandrel pipe and making my own flanges. I've been wanting to try and make my own header but just thought it might help to start with one already made and modify it to fit. Any ideas?
