My negative cable was loose, but I disconnected and reconnected, the started still didn't start. After waiting 30 minutes, even while listening to my CD player inside, the started kicked in. Weird, my mechanic has the car, he'll check the starter and see if I need a need a new one. Thanks for the advice guys.

Could be loose battery terminals.. like they won't look loose, but you'll be about 1/2 a turn from happiness. It's happened to me a few times usually just after I've reconnected the battery..

THe darn think started up every time this weekend. It's not my battery cuase it's brand new and I check the voltage. It's good. No loose wires and all fuses are good. Every time I turn the key, there's started sound. This has happened to me three times already. What I do, is just relax for 30 minutes, listen to music and then try to start it. It will start again. I'll be taking the car in to put my 5 speed in this Wednesday, I'm gona ask my mechanic to check the starter, thanks guys.

Many times the starter solenoid will go bad. The solinoid is just a big relay and the contacts get dirty. I haven't looked at the civic solenoids, but I have repaired others. If you are going to toss out the old one, you have nothing to loose. Give it a try..... Take apart the solenoid and clean the contacts.

I got a 5speed tranny, I got a 5speed tranny, I got a 5speed tranny. na na na na na, na na na na na.........
Just found me a 5speed tranny for my wagon. Now it's going to get hooked up and no more High RPM's. Even my mechanic was surprized that I found one. Took me 2 hours to get it off, but it was worth all the nicks, cuts and effort. Everything came off as a complete unit, the main tranny, the shift assembly, the shifter. Took the pressure plate, plate cover and clutch. Came off a 77 Honda Civic Hatchback. I'll post pictures once project gets going and done.

Left the blue wire unpluged and then plug it in, nothing happends and I'm doing this as I'm driving about 60mph on the freeway, there's no difference.
By sony (68.7.165.149) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 10:11 pm: |
Weird, I left it unpluged and the Tach works perfect. Also, two of my four Tachs don't have that blue wire.
By Adrian (Evocivic) (203.42.97.141) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 10:08 pm: |
That's the signal wire to the tacho (i.e. the wire that goes to the coil and lets the tacho read the ignition pulses).

Ok, I have a question regarding the Deluxe guages. I just noticed that some Tach/Speedometer guages have blue wire. Does anyone know what this blue wire does? I left it unpluged and it doesn't affect anything. Anyone have a clue?

Wow, just as I am posting this photo where the Speedometer is close to 100mph, there's a CHP officer drinking some coffee next to me. The photo of the 100mph speedo is from my 78 Silver Hatchback Civic CVCC. It has a 4speed, I would never push my hondamatic pass 80mph. Still, I'm looking for a 5speed to put in my wagon.

Well, here's a photo of my Tach working on my Hondamatic.
By sony (68.7.165.149) on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 - 11:56 pm: |
Adrian, you were right. Engine doesn't care if you have hondamatic, 4 speed or 5 speed. I knew the wiring was in there, but I wasn't sure the Tack would work. It works awsome. It's nice to have those deluxe guages on my wagon. Only other option that I don't have is AC ( I don't want it ) bumper over-riders and still looking for that 5speed trany.
By Adrian (Evocivic) (203.42.97.141) on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 - 09:15 pm: |
A tacho doesn't know or care what type of gearbox you have attached to the engine. All it does is display engine revolutions per minute.
By sony (68.7.165.149) on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 - 09:06 pm: |
I knew that the wires were there for the Hondamatics, but I thought just because honda wanted to standardize everything. I didn't think the Tachometer would work with the automatic tranny. I'll be installing it in my wagon and see how it works. Is the Tach accurate on 2nd and 1st gears though?
By felipe casanova (200.30.232.182) on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 - 10:56 am: |

By Jonathan (12.98.156.194) on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 - 04:48 am: |
Sony, the tachometer does work with a Hondamatic. I put one in mine, it was just plug in and go. I didn't even need to connect anything under the hood. You can keep your original speedometer if you want the shift points there too. There's a mention of what I did to install them here:

yes kyle, this was last thursday with the 4 speed gearbox at 5800 rpm, the engine still wanna go more but i was afraid of valve overlap or any failure, with the 5 speed GJ the civic can reach 180km/h
P.s: justin you´re FAR of being stock!!! haha pretty impressive speed though! it was on the wagon, or the convertible?
By Glenn Biscan (211.30.144.154) on Monday, February 21, 2005 - 09:27 pm: |
i would imagine it works
as long as it has a wire that goes to the coil it should work just fine
By sony (68.7.165.149) on Monday, February 21, 2005 - 09:24 pm: |
Anyone ever install the deluxe gauages on a hondamatic Civic? Does that Tachometer work with Hondamatics or does it not read anything? There's only two speeds on the hondamatics, will it show the RPM's for the gears still?

By sony (68.7.165.149) on Friday, February 18, 2005 - 08:12 am: |
It did have a passanger side mirror. I can't tell if it was a black one like the driver's side, but it looks well installed. Who ever took it, didn't take the mounting bracket or it probably broke as they were moving the car. The driver's side is chipped and I prefer the chrome ones. As for the seats, they are torn. Bumpers? I don't know how much they would charge for those. I'll ask and post on here after I talk to them. There's also two junked wagons, but I can't use any parts. They are both from 75 so they don't have to good brakes and pretty rusted out. No 5 speeds either I'll keep searching for a 5 speed. Bruce, how much for the pedal set and for a good working 5 speed tranny with the shifter and linkage?

I'm not interested in the car. I'm sure the wrecking yard will sell it. They are selling other cars. Oh, that yellow civic is missing the Gauge cluster since it had the tach and the deluxe gas/temp gagues.

I saw this cute Civic at the wrecking yard. I can't see why it's there though. It's very complete. Engine and 5speed trany are still in it. I check the clutch, it's shot. I bet the person that owned it, just decided not to fix it cause a clutch for these cars is difficult to find. Anyway, so sad to see it in the wrecking yard. No dents anywhere and all the glass is perfect. Color is faded, interior is torn, but too bad the car has met it's end.

By sonymmx200 (208.54.15.129) on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 03:35 pm: |
For those of you that are curious, the air dam is Kamie. I used to have a 77 Accord CVCC. Never installed the air dam, so I just trimmed about 3 inches on the ends and mounted it to my Civic. Dam cost me $200.00 bucks. The flares were a tough find. I don't know the brand name, but they sure help alot now when it rains or when I run over water. No more splashing on the body of my freshly washed wagon. The Honda optional wheels that I installed on the wagon made the stuck out about 1 1/2" inshes from the well and kicked up lots of water and debris. Next I'm going to paint the flares and dam white to match the body.

Glen, everything should bolt up, but don't use the std exhaust as it will choke a 1600/1800. with an 1800 you'll be looking to do a quick 100 mm hub conversion to get some decent brakes, use the later accord elec ign-no points-good! if you want to remain auto install an accord 3 speed with a taller final drive or just go crazy and install an accord 5 speed and 13/14 inch wheels, wayhey!! a great daily driver.

I've never been a fan of any of the iron block engines. The EL should be better than the EC (it's bigger ). I would imagine it's a straight bolt in but having never done it I don't know for certain.

Cool! I have never seen a sun viser on a Civic. Looks realy odd but somehow I like it. My son is sitting beside me and says that "it makes it look cute like it is wearing a hat"
Got any pics of the front seats and dash? What does it look like under the hood?

i got this awesome little car off an old lady who had a heart attack and can no longer drive. It has 84,000 original k's on it, with the plastic on the door trims of every door. It has a weathershield and this strange metal thing over the windscreen that looks a bit like a sunshade type device.
