Jonathan, in your new part 20 you notice a steel sleeve surrounded by rubber. Now take your part 16 and look at it, dollars to donuts the steel sleeve from old part 20 is still stuck on part 16.
)if it looks like it has 2 layers I.E. a seam around the top where it is suppose to slide in.)
only wat I found to get it off is I took my roto zip with a cutting wheel and carefully cut down one side at an angle then took a small chizel to peel it off.

I was putting together my shifter assembly, in prep for a trans swap when the weather improves, and it turns out that the shifter rod that mounts to the transmission (without the bitch pin) and comes up through the floor won't fit through that plate on the floor. The diameters of the linkage and the plate are the same. Am I missing something here? The shifter is from a '77 5-speed, and the floor plate I bought brand-new from Honda for a '79 5-speed. The part numbers come up the same on slhondaparts.com, so I'm guessing everything is the same.
To try and make things a little clearer, part 16 doesn't fit into part 20 in this drawing:
If I can't figure it out, I'm thinking I need to take a look for a new shift linkage....
