i did mine outside. i've attempted to remove a block (EK1) without removing the tranny at a wrecker and ran into too many 'hidden' bolts and gave ut. i've also removed my tranny in car without removing the engine and it was a pain in the a$$. my EM1 and EK1 had chain mounting locations on the head (above the water pump mounted where the intake manifold bolts up) and one on the tranny by the clutch cable bracket. when i had the EK1 on the stand and i was ready to bolt the tranny to it i took the rubber off the front engine mount and bolted a chain to it so i could lift it and mount the tranny. it's not the best solution as it is difficult to keep the motor level but you only need to do that to get the tranny onto the engine. then you can you can use the tranny lift point. in one of the old honda engine building books (can't remember which, not factory) the guy has instruction on how to remove the block without the head through the bottom with the tranny in the car. seemed like more work to me tho.

Sorry, this is for an EB3.

Where is the best place to connect the cherry picker to the engine to pull it? Can it be bulled without the transmission? Or should I pull both and mount the new engine to the old transmission outside of the car?

Thanks
