Canada76civic,

Oh were you taking about the old forum, that was part of proboards and it is gone. The one that is there now is part of the site and can be backed up as the other one could not. If you need further help just say the word and I will see what i can do. :)

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 09:31 pm:

Looks like I'll have to come up with a new user name and new password anyway. The site has changed from what I've seen - in some ways better. Thanks for your offer, Shreck.

By Shreck (24.112.121.191) on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 07:41 pm:

Canada76civic did you try resetting it on the main page, also if you entered a secret word then you should be able to. If not then I need your user ID and email address you entered when you signed up.
Remember that user Id and Password start with capital letters.

By Canada76civic (Canada76civic) (68.146.192.75) on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 06:02 pm:

Shreck - could you help me out about getting back to your site 1stgencivic.com ? I cannot sign in as I had forgetten my password now. If you have that in file - could you email me that? Thanks!

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 04:25 pm:

Glad to hear it's on its way back. I was really starting to miss it:) What's funny is that I didn't realize how much I relied on some it in some way or another.

Sites lookin nice so far

By Shreck (199.243.98.218) on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 - 12:10 pm:

Hey guys and gals

www.1stgencivic.com

I guess I should fill you in on what is happening with the site. The site now has 80% more space for 50% less cost. I like those numbers. While I was about looking for another host, I came across a site that had a deal and when I clicked on the link to check it out it to me back to my hosting company! Hell, they had new deals in the week that followed me canceling my account.

I have not had very much time to put the site back up, as I have been very busy trying to get the floors done at home. Please be patient while the site gets reloaded, so far it is about 5% done.

Thank you very much to those that offered to host the site. :) :)

The web site - 1stgencivic.com - is still down. I did get to the main page but it said that it's down until it's resolved later.

whats the story on that red civic?

By Chaffneue (Chaffneue) (66.183.190.188) on Tuesday, March 01, 2005 - 09:08 am:

Randy.. It's a custom program by me :) but yeah you can register for it here:

http://www.civic77.com/getaccount.php and see if you like it.. once you log in, fill out you rinfo and click tech tips>add an article. you can put pretty much anything you like into the forms including html.

and yeah I'd love to host or translate any of the info on your site.. It'd be really cool to keep the resources you put so much work into around somewhere.. the site credits you for posting tech tips, so it's just a big open database :)

Chaffneue what software do you use for your site?

It is very nice of you guys to offer, but I am not looking for charity. There are other factors involved too.

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Tuesday, March 01, 2005 - 08:03 am:

So I take it Apache is a program? That would save me a ton of hastle having my sites files in one folder on my computer. It must slow your computer down though, right?

By Chaffneue (Chaffneue) (66.183.190.188) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 11:37 pm:

Randy.. I can convert your site for civic 77 if you want, that way you won't run out of space and you can just add stuff whenever you want using the interface.. no more pesky HTML. If you're just having hosting cost issues, check out geekhosting.com and godaddy.com.. they have insanely good deals.. I'm hosting civic77 from my home server. I don't worry about bandwidth or space, because I haven't run into a ceiling yet :) You can do that too.. all you have to get is Apache and redirect your dot com to your home ip address, the only downside is you have to leave your machine on all the time.. but I do that anyway. 1stgencivic is way to good of a resource to just disappear. :(

well it all depends on what you ultimately want to do with the site. In a nutshell I could either take the site off your hands completely - domain and all, or get some temporary hosting to keep the information up until you want to take the site (and hosting etc.) back.

By DaRk (66.50.181.176) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 09:57 pm:

Off of what car are those bumpres on the red Civic?

By shreck (24.112.121.191) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 09:36 pm:

Well Richard should answer that question, But if this site is on a pretty stable server then it should run its self other than doing a regular back up.

Yep looks like proboards is yabb. I might download it and check it out sometime.

By shreck (24.112.121.191) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 09:20 pm:

What did you have in mind Lazy?

Btw is proboards the sames as Yabb?, if thats the case it can easily be installed in the same space as the site and will be easier to maintain than an external forum.

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 09:16 pm:

solely out of curiosity here, with this board is this something Richard must attend to every day or does it run itself?

By lazy (139.130.237.102) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 08:59 pm:

Man.. this is tragic.

Shreck.. if you want a break from hosting/maintaining 1stgencivic.com then I may have a solution for you. Email me at >daydreamer (at) alexandria.cc< as I would hate to see this invaluable resource you've created down for any extended period of time (or permanently).

By bomohymns (203.106.242.227) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 08:44 pm:

check this out!!!

By shreck (24.112.121.191) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 08:42 pm:

The forum on 1stgencivic is a free board (proboards) like ez, I used that forum when the second gen site was still around on Rogers hosting and found it impossible to get logged in during peak hours; proboards has a lot of features for customization too. One downfall it had security loop holes. To have a super civic site it might be better to have a forum and the site all in one and that would be less time consuming especially from the point of user features and security. Then again when you check your site traffic and you filter out the search engine spyders there is not a whole lot of traffic anyway. The site is so close to being where I hoped it to get with addition of a couple of new subjects.

In the early days of 1stgencivic.com I installed the discuss forum (free like this version + 1) and they are not friendly to administer, that is why I tossed it. Sure it has the ability for uploading pictures which is probably one of the best features, the search engine is not the best but I know a work around for that and this is a very good site with a wealth of in depth knowledge but it needs a bit tweaking.

The reason I stared the proboards forum in the first place was to create a place for newbies that landed on 1stgencivic.com a place to communicate. I found it very time consuming getting so many emails asking all sorts of questions and in different languages too. I always tried 100% to answer questions or help when I could and at times it got overwhelming. That is one of the prices you pay never mind the tons of Spam you get. If you had help to maintain a site and forum how do you decide who does what?

One thing about my host company is that they have excellent customer support and respond very quickly. They are A-1 support and their prices are competitive too. But not as good as yours Kurt. :) You can pretty much ask Amy anything and she will help you out. They even have a discussion forum for common issues. My web host issues tickets and they are timed so you can expect a quick response anytime.

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 08:09 pm:

PS - that sucks about the site, you put in a lot of work there.

By Kurt (205.250.75.226) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 08:08 pm:

Thanks Randy :)

Last I heard Richard was getting a million hits a year. But, Richard like most, is very busy and I don't know the last time we saw him post something here :)

Mine is the first site I ever built and I am still using Netscape Composer to build them!! I am looking at stepping up to Microsoft Front Page. I hope to change mine around so its not so focused on just my car but these things take a rediculous amount of time. We'll see how Front Page works, I here its quicker, so we'll see. I wanted to build a site like Randys but with so much content already there it was kinda pointless. Plus I'm trying my hand at a Tigershark web site for my other hobby :) I definitely like the thought of one Mega Civic site though. There is definitely enough interest.

I use canaca.com for mine as I found it to be one of the cheaper ones by far and I'm no where near their limit. Their customer support is not the best and I need ALOT of that, I think I make them angry when I call now :)

By Don (63.224.193.224) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 07:32 pm:

Randy sorry to hear about the troubles
Is EZ board free? I was thinking that would be a good place for a Civic forum. Your site was the best sure someone can thow up a fancy page or two but it took time and lots of it to present the info like you did. Its a loss for early civic fans everywere. I really think this site could use a makeover 75% of the posts could be deleted and the other pages need help How about sharing effort and makin a MEGA CIV site :)

By shreck (24.112.121.191) on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 06:59 pm:

I redirected it to yahoo so you would not go to an empty folder, and I added the count down timer just for the fun of it.

On March 10th the site will be concluding until such time that I can find the moment to obtain more space at a realistic price from a web host, I have run out again and this will be the third time since 2003 that the size of the site has increased. I have even removed all my own stuff to make room for others and you might have noticed that I removed the brochures and reduced the sizes of the pictures on the site too. If I were to keep this pace up what quality if left would go down the drain and this is not the site I want. I added sponsors to the site to see if it could help to support funds for the site but the site traffic is very low and not worth having.

With all the work going on around the house since last summer and the lack of time to work on my own car is the cause to loose interest in what is going on out here. Having to check the site and forum every day to see if you know who is posting crap (jms, Jared, SMJ) has worn out what interest is left.

Besides there are a couple of really good new sites on the first generation civic scene now. 77Civic’s and Kurt’s awesome web and one of the newest 1gcivic . I am sure the younger guys will do a much better job than I have.

Oh Kurt great paint job :)

Hey Keil I will post your Grot watch here on the forum when I get a chance.

very strange...it now re-routes you to yahoo.ca ?

By AndyD (63.22.201.136) on Sunday, February 27, 2005 - 08:41 pm:

Tried for two days now with no luck ... weird web page comes up.
Sent email to Randy directly and it was kicked back by the mail server.

It would be a real bummer to lose such a nice site, but that's not to take anything away from the one that started it all, the CIVIC1200 site!!

The more sites we have for these great cars the better as far as I'm concerned! Keepin the fingers crossed that the site will be back!!
