Oh for sure money is a factor Ive only got 500 bux left, so I wont be doing this any time soon. I think Ill just take the seats out and adapt the rails to fit in my car, apparently the interior is mint. My friend really wants to buy this... we just cant figure out what the heck we would do with it seeings as we wouldnt try to get papers and safety it and all that crap.
anyways thanks for all the brainstorming ideas.

The physical size would dictate that, the 1.8 and 2 litres from the Prelude are much larger and heavier than the 1200, mine in a CVCC was a tight fit. I'm sure that with enough time and money it CAN be done. There are many other drivelines that wil fit without all the cutting and welding that fitting these require. My car had the left and right rails cut and refabricated to allow for the alternator and transmission to clear, which is a major structural change, also the front and rear crossbeams were cut and reinforced to clear the components.
If you have an unlimited bank account, go for it, but, from what I understand, Kris is in highschool, and I am sure $$$ are a factor.

cvcc x 2, if he had the whole car, couldn't he most likely cut them out of the prelude and weld them into the civic....cut and fit as needed?

Physically measure the driveline and compare it to your Civics engine bay, my car's front and rear crossmembers had to be extensively cut and reshaped to make it work, and that was with the extra 3" in the CVCC. Keep in mind that unlike V-tec swaps, there isn't really anything available for performance upgrades or motor mount adaptors for these. Everything will have to be made from scratch.

Kris, anything is possible...there are vtec 1st gens out there. But it's a lot of work. 50 bucks is cheap and would be a great engine and a lot of fun to drive. Because you get the original car you can cut out a lot of it's pieces to re-weld into your 1st gen. The shop will have all the tools...anything is easy when you have the tools. I say go for it man! The only way to learn is to do it...it will be a crap load of work...but worth every bloody knuckle when you peel out of the shop and throw pics up for all of us to drool.

I have the driveline from an 86 Prelude Si (2 litre)in my 76. Extensive modifications to the frame rails and crossmembers were required to make it work as well as fabricating motor mounts and driveshafts. My Civic is a CVCC and the driveline is a tight fit, I highly doubt that it would work in a 1200.
I will post some pictures soon.

I have a multitude of questions here that I could not even get close to finding when I searched.
Ok, I have a chance to buy a 1985 prelude with rebuilt motor/ tranny good interior, DUAL CARBS!!!!. The downside no fenders bad impact and no papers and it was last registered out of the province. BUT!! He only wants 50 dollars for IT!!!(not a spelling error) I fell out of my chair when he told me this.
Ok so, i have a 74 civic with a tired engine/ blown head. Has anyone swapped in an 85 prelude engine? motor mounts? would it even fit? would this enclude extensve subframe modds? is this so extensive that its not even plausible?
Also if it is absolutely out of the question to swap the motor, are the dual carbs swappable? ie. with a different manifold, one you wouldnt have to make yourself? (I will try to find out exactly what kind of carbs they are)
By the way I am in grade 11 shop class and will be in shop next year. i will have a total of 150-200 hours in the shop alltogether where I have access to welder grinder, hoist. ect.
your help is much appreciated as I am learning.
Kris
