thanks john.

I did sychronise them, a mechanic at work let me borrow his carb synchro, but I didn't notice a change.

I got a hold of this guy in italy who Kurt gave me his contact. I was just about to get some jets but he still hasn't emailed me back on the final word, its been like 2 months now. Mabe I should just send it into this place out here called Specialty Engineering, they deal with Datsuns and alot of other import hotrods.

Farenheight101,
Sounds to me like your carbs are set WAY out of wack, probably need jetted leaner, and sychronised as well...you can't just stick a major intake change on there without spending time dialing it in.
Colza,
As long as your fuel meets the requirements of your compression...at least until you start talking serious numbers, say 11to1 or higher, the way you drive it and the way you broke it in, will determine engine life more than compression ratio. With the gas you can get, 10.5 should not be a problem.
(In your spare time)LOL, read up on current "quench" knowledge too, you can't beat the laws of the physical universe(contrary to some popular idiot beliefs), but you can go a long way to stacking the odds in your favor.
After you get a good handle on "quench" then take another look at the Mugen EB head, and you will have a newfound appreciation for the "masters".

hehe...thanks for the reply errol.

The head was just totally redone. Colt cam, new OEM rockers, brand new OEM valves, all seals, and nice stiff valve springs from R&D springs. The problem is that when I put the head on with dual dellortos, it must have blown out some rings. Smoking coasting down hills, 150km on a tank and crap for power, very dissapointing.

This july I'll be heading to ontario for a couple months so a fresh rebuild is due. Mabe stock is fine becasue it seems like alot of trouble for the whole bottom end if I went high comp pistons. And how many gas stations along the praries have at least 90 octane fuel?

cheers and oi to the world,
Colin

I think jumpin 1-1.5 pts in compression would still be fine. Kinda perky, yet still could run 90 octane. Just if ya go higher, make sure your vacume advance is working, good clean radiator-water pump, free flowin aircleaner. And remember, water only cools about 60% the rest is the oil splashin and wind.

But what else are ya gonna do to the engine?
It's really a waste if you pump it up and don't have a cam, carb, ignition, gears to round it all out.

While you have the engine out, have the flywheel lightened and the whole assembly balanced.
Now the EN is the US equivilent of the 1600??
If so the crank should be double counterweighted. Which would mean it would balance better and you should be able to get more RPMS out of it.

I tend to like regular cast rings 'cause they seat faster than others and if oil gets past them alittle, it could 'ping' or pre-detonate and foul plugs with higher revs and compression.

And for the head, make sure the guides are good along with the rocker face that meets the cam. (they usually go bad on 3-4)
It may be hard to clean the rockershaft inside also. (if it's a really dirty engine) and make sure the springs that separate the rockers don't cover up the little oil holes that squirt on the rockers. If they are hard to adjust, the rockershaft may be worn past its' limits and it won't hold an adjustment.
DON'T loose the oil pump cam gear from the shaft!!
or bend the shaft pulling it out, or you might get goofy noises from it rubbing inside.

You can contact Venolia and order custom pistons.

http://www.venolia.com/imports.html

The Accord engine code for the 1600cc CVCC is the EF. The 1751cc is the EK. Accords didn't come with 1500cc engines. You can find a list of a lot of Honda engine codes here:

where can you even get high compression pistons?

btw what is the engine code for the 1500 cvcc in the accord?

Oi guys and gals,

I'm getting my EN1 shortblock redone. Was just wondering, if I went with high compression pistons would the life of the engine decrease faster than using stock 8:1 pistons? I mean I'll be using 94 octane gas, but I'll also be pushing it of course. But for the power, would it be worth it?

Cheers,
Colin
