That happened to me for the longest time, and it turns out my wires were crossed:) go figure

well, I modified my original bracket I made and managed to get enough clearance. It'll have to do for now, and later I'll make one off the tranny. H - those pics aren't showing up for me.

went to start the car. no go. timing is waay off. I think I put the dizzy in wrong. I wasn't sure how to hook up the pulse generator on the prelude dizzy, so I used the wagon one. All SORTS of fire shootin' out the carb! I didn't have time to tinker, so I'll check it out tomorrow.

You may be able to use the bracket(#'s 11 & 12 in the pic}and the 77 wagon torque rod.

Sorry I misread this post.I thought you were putting the EL into an 83 civic.I now see its is an EL going into a 77 civic wagon using the 83 civic tranny. The pic of the set up I posted wont work for that application.

Your best bet is to fab a mount off of the tranny and use the civic wagon torque rod. Here are a couple of one I did.

Here is a pic of what I am talking about
torquerod

Why not just use the torque rod and torque rod bracket that bolts to the 83 tranny?

Thanks for the input!

Well, I got the flywheel machined, and the motor in the car. I'll probably try getting it running on Saturday.

Still having problems with the torque rod. On the civic head, there are 2 holes right beside the manifold where the bracket attaches for the torque rod. On the prelude head, the manifold is much wider, leaving no space for holes on the head for the bracket. (It's a Canadian prelude 1600 btw)

A made a bracket to attach where the last two manifold studs are, but the rod ends up being far to close to the coolant hose that runs to the intake manifold.

Here's a pic: http://www.warezstein.com/~justin/parts/bracket.jpg

I can only imagine it'll shake like a worn out washing machine if I run it without one!

Oh yeah, also, the fuel cut off solonoid on the civic carb has 2 wires, but the Prelude only has one. I'm assuming the 'one wire' solonoid provides it's own ground and the civic one doesn't, thus the extra wire?

5) off the civic

1)that engine/tranny combo will work, the clutch/flywheel should work as well but it would help if you knew what it was from
2)yes you will need to maching it, the EL crank is just slightly larger and won't fit into the recess, also the bolts are larger, so the mounting holes need to be enlarged
3)nope,yes
4)I don't think that will work, if I remember right the teeth are tapered at the end so the starter teeth will engage better. If you flip it, it may not line up well enough to engage
5)I don't remember =) I have an EL in mine, and I have a short rod attaching to the head. wether it came off the civic or the accord I'm not sure

Jeez. Nothing? I searched the board for 2 hours and found some helpful info, but I just wanted some input on this stuff.

I think I figured it all out, just wanted some input. Seems like too much work for a crappy motor.
Maybe I'll stop wasting my time and just weld up some mounts for a d-series. I have more than enough parts to do it that I'd just as soon throw out anyway. Cheers.

Here's what I want to do this weekend. If anyone is wondering why I'm choosing this combo of parts, I'm just using parts I have, and I know are in good shape. I know it's far from ideal, but I need a second car to drive ASAP, and I don't want to go looking for other parts.

Engine is an EL from my 81 Prelude. Trans is a 5spd from my 83 Civic 1300. (1)I have a clutch/flywheel that are from the 83, or perhaps from the original 77 cvcc. Not sure, just found them shoved in a corner of the shop. I assume they're similar enough that it shouldn't matter?

From searching the board, and looking at the parts I have, I see I'll have to enlarge the holes on the flywheel. Brought flywheel home, looked again. (2) Do I also have to machine the recess on the backside of the flywheel to fit properly on the EL crank? I can check when I go back tomorrow night, but I'd like to have it machined during the day tomorrow.

(3) Or am I out to lunch here as to whether this combo will work at all?

Also the teeth on the ring gear are pretty worn. I was just going to remove the gear and flip it over. (4) Anyone ever have problems removing these w/o wrecking them? I assume as long as I can heat the ring gear hot and fast enough, it should just pop off the flywheel.

(5)The torque rod on the cvcc motor attaches to the head? correct? Just going from what I can remember. The prelude rod attaches lower than the head, onto some bracket. There doesn't appear to be holes on the EL head for the rod to attach. Also if I would attach it to the motor in the same manner as the prelude, it would be at too great of an angle to attach to the firewall. Dunno what I'll do there.

Other than that, everything else looks pretty straight forward. Any other tips?

Thanks to anyone who bothered to read through all that!!!! Any help would be appreciated.
