Dark.Dude.Get yourself a service manual.I think you need to learn some basics before you can begin trouble shootting. As Jonathan said you need to determine if your wires are run correctly first.Firing order is 1 3 4 2.Number 1 being the cylinder nearest the pulley side of the engine(drivers side if your in Canada/US)Distributor rotation is counter clockwise.Your distributor cap should have a #1 marked on the top.The wire from that terminal marked #1 should run to cylinder #1.Next,moving counter clockwise will be #3.The wire from that terminal should run to #3 cylinder. And so on.I hope this helps.Good Luck.

why not start simple.. do a spark test and just see if you're getting spark at all. What you do is get a single spark plug, set the gap properly, insert it into the problem wire and start the car. while it's running hold the plug against something metal on the car (hold onto something rubber so you don't get zapped). if you are getting spark, then the plug wires are probably wired the wrong way. if you get no spark, then it's some kind of ignition problem, so work your way back through the circuit and find where the resistance is. it could be as easy as tracking down a faulty ignition component or as hard as fixing bent or chipped valves in case they're blowing by.

Jonathan, how could I "read" that?

They may be on backwards. What's the firing order you're running on the engine now? I had two plug wires reversed and it ran the same way as you're describing. I think you should have a 1-3-4-2 firing order.

forgot to add.... could that be one reason why the car backfires through the carb ?

Hey Guys...if I take the spark cables off (1 by 1) while the car is on...and the far left and right ones taken off makes the car sputter, while the two center ones dont , what does that mean?
