Hmm.. aren't the tachos on 1gs mechanical? I don't think your voltage regulator would do much to that if that's the case..

Mmm I had my car do that as well, it was the distributor shaft wasn't getting enough oil. It was all caked with sludge that was starting to dry it out and cause friction. I took it all apart and cleaned it with some emery cloth, cleaned out the oil passages with wire, and put it back together with some lube. Its been fine ever since

Ahhh!
Now my tach is doing wierd things. While the idle stays at 1000rpm, the tach needle jumps every once in ahile.
It happened once a couple months ago too...but then it was bad...the tach needle was going haywire and the engine's timing was waay off or something, but then it all of a sudden stopped and went to normal.
My sister suggested it might be my voltage regulator, as she had the same problem in her 1g supra. Does this sound right?
cheers guys,
Colin

well its an S&S merge collector, but I think the headers are AT engineering from what the seller thought. Do you think if I made the end of the primaries perfectly round and got a nut welded on so I can bolt them together. Hmmmmm

If its an S&S.. the merge collector (not the lower priced cheapo collector) is slipped on and bolted it doesnt leak I have had mine on for three years.

Thats what I would do, or at the very least clamp it. That muffler cement in useless.

ahhhh...
nice, 2 things to undo then. Thanks alot guys.
About the merge collector, I was thinkin of trying muffler cement. If it hardened in such a tight fit, then it should be pretty strong, but I doubt it. Most likely get old and fall out. Welding must be the answer, thats what all you guys do right?
Cheers,
Colin

oh I circled the fill bolt on the diagram.....

They take about the same amount of oil (around 2.5l). There is a fill level bolt on the end cover. Remove it and start filling from the top. When oil comes out the hole in the end it's full.

there is a small bolt in front...hard to find but there. you will probably end up having to weld your collector on.

What do you guys do to seal your merge collector to your primaries without welding. If I had to weld them...the only way to get them on and off is to take off the crossmember. I tried high temp permatex silicon, but of crouse didn't hold.
Also, my 78 is a factory 5spd. The oil fill hole is on the top rather than on the side of the diff like on my GN tranny, so how many liters do they take then? I don't think you'd fill it to the top until it comes out, thats too much...
Cheers,
Colin
