Good to see it's running finally.. When you installed the master, did you bench bleed it? (basically fill the master, pump the shaft, let fluid come out, and then plug the holes when you release the piston( so it can't draw air back in) repeat until you get a even flow of fluid) I had the same problem on my wagon until I did the above Regarding the engine light coming on, check the code, and let me know what # comes up

The thing that comes to mind is wheel cylinders or the piston in the calipers leaking. Can you pump on the brakes to build up pressure?
or is it more that they are solid one second then goes to the floor the next, because that would seem like the brake booster then.
but if you can pump the brakes to build up pressure and want to trouble shoot for leaking in wheel cylinders and such just clamp off the rubber portion of the hose at each brake and then see if the pedal hardens up.
I dont know if this helps you much but just my 2 cents on what comes to mind.

Idunno, but is your check valve ok and facing the right way on the booster line?

Hi all,
I have FINALLY almost got my '77/'93 hybrid ready to roll, but have come major problem that some of you experts may have some ideas on how to solve (nothing major on the hybrid install, other than the cooling fan circuit on the '93.. Do I need a resistor in the circuit on the temp switch to pull in the cooling fan relay? I keep blowing fuses...) But I digress.....
During the fabrication stage of the D16Z6 install (all 3 years of it) I had pulled the master cylinder, leaving the connections at the distribution block (or prop valve??) on the fire wall open for that time. I have since installed new rear slaves, new front calipers and a new master....
When we initally bled the brakes, we couldn't get any pedal, and found that one only of the circuits between the master and the distribution block was above the master (creating a "jhgh spot"), so we eventually vacuum bled the system, but are still having problems....
Here is the head scratcher.... we have bled about 2 litres of fluid throught the system, and we THINK we have all the air out of it, as we can get a full pedal, but only sometimes... while test driving it, it is a craps shoot if there will be any brakes when you hit the pedal... Sometimes it will be all there, or it may go to the floor, or anywhere inbetween.... Now if the pedal was consistantly going to the floor, I would call it a master, but it is sometimes OK...
Also, there appears to be no apparant leaks...
Is that "distribution block" a prop valve? Could it have "popped" and if so, is there anyway to flip it back?
Could there be a problem with booster?
HELP
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....
Just as an aside, when the brake pedal hits the floor, the "check engine" light for the '93 computer lights.... Could the brake booster have a massive leak, causing the map to go???
Please copy your ideas to my e-mail address below, as I will be only have internet access periodically over the next couple of weeks.... Will be up north starting up portions of the new Syncrude up grader....
Thanks
Brian from Calgary
