If there are at least 2 different blocks floating round then i should imagine there is a reasonable chance that it IS different. Thanks for that.

I can't say for sure but I know the 75 ED is different than the 76-79 ED so, the 75 EC may be different from the 76-79 EC?

"Unopened head gasket set part# DK114. Suits EC engine 1978-79, ED engine 1977-79, EG engine 1976-78"
Were there 2 different EC engines? Or will this be the right head-gasket for my '75 EC?

I dont get it =/
Hehehe. Im gonna have a poke around and see if i can track down a few headgaskets to compare.

The 1602 is the late model EL (82-83)

Ahhhh, i think i get it. (maybe =P)
Is the EF/EG the 1602cc?
And the EL is the 1598cc?
I remember reading somewhere about the 2 different 1600 blocks that were not related at all, would this be them?
Cheers guys =)

Hang on, EM = 1300non-CVCC
EC = 1500non-CVCC
ED = 1500CVCC
EF = ?

the head gasket i bought for my EC had EM, EC, ED and EF listed as the engines it would fit. if i remember correctly the ED was a dumbed down version of the EF for good economy, that meaning that it had smaller valves and it was CVCC. the EC is the non-CVCC version of the ED however i don't know if it had the same valve size and whatnot as the ED or whether it was exactly the same as the EF on a 1.5l block. either way i don't think the EL/EK heads are interchangeable with the EC, ED, EM, or EF. someone may prove me wrong tho...

Hmmm. Can anyone confirm if they are the 'same' head, or if they just happen to have the same manifold studs and port spacing?
They have the same bore, but the EC has 8.6:1 cr while the EL has 8.4:1
From the photo's in my Haynes manuals the EL has dished pistons while the EC has flat-top. That would work out with the cr if the heads are the same volume.
Does anyone have an EC head off that they can take some measurements off? Like valve sizes and head volume? I have an EL head here which i can measure, but my EC is still bolted to my car =/

EL manifold has much better flow than my EC
the EC manifold had a big plate inside the manifold
intake and exhaust manifolds lined up perfectly but im not sure if the head bolts on

Excellent!!!! Thankyou!

Yes.The 76-79 EC and 79-81 EL interchange.

Can anyone confirm that the exhuast manifold from an EL will bolt up to an EC? I saw a mention somewhere that they used the same head...
