it was wrong again. i ended up having to get a gasket that fits a later honda/izuzu/chevy. fits just right, though. and its seafoam green. cool...

i found that thr two questions i had in this thread were more inter-related than i thought. even though i told the parts store i wanted the manifold to exhaust pipe gasket, they gave me what i think is the middle exhaust gasket after the flex pipe(i don't have a middle flange), as it is a bit too small to fit over the pipe connecting to the manifold. so... the gasket was too small and the pipe couldn't sit right, resulting in it hitting the frame.
for reference, there is more than one "exhaust flange gasket", so make sure you get the right one.
thanks for your help on this one.

andrew, i can get a new gasket in town. so i shouldn't reuse it? when i was putting it in it just didn't feel like it sat anywhere quite right. i just kind of guessed where it should go and tightened down the pipe. i was just checking to see if there was some paper gasket or something.
the pipe is hitting right past the bottom of the firewall.
i can figure it out. i just thought i'd see if any of you have run into anything similar.
i've got a million little thing to work out on this puppy. thats part of the fun, though. i'm just glad i'm to the point of it starting up.
thanks.

where on the body? my exhaust is not stock and i have a 2G wagon so i can't really help you there but as for the gasket, it is a round ring seated in the downpipe, once it's torqued down it flattens down so you might not be able to feel it. i have a new one lying around somewhere i think.

My exhaust used to rattle again the body too, so I simply just cut away the body wherever it interfered with the exhaust. Not the cleanest remedy but it did the trick.

any of you fine EK swap kids ever have a problem with the exhaust pipe rattling against the body? i'm wondering because, from what i can find, no one has mentioned having a problem. the one thing i can think of is the new front/lower mount i installed may of pulled the engine forward a bit. i used a mount from an accord. attached it to the front cross member. what have you guys done for this mount?
anyways, it looks like i can grind a bit off at where the pipe contacts the body.

by the way, the exhaust manifold to pipe gasket is just a round ring, right? when i put it in i had to go by feel and there didn't seem to be a definitive channel for it to go in.

i am very gratful for all your help on this project. i will post pictures of the car in a few days.
anyone thinking of a northwest meet this summer?
