allright, I think when the EN and and the EB are apart it'll all come together visually. But thanks for the confidence boost with knowledge. I will update you with the progress. But so far so good

Thanks,

Nathan

The only real difference between the EB1 and EB2 blocks is the bore. There are some minor differences in the casting here and there that don't affect anything, other than the differences around the sump which means you can't use an EB2/3 or EN1 sump on an EB1 block. If you use an EB2 or 3 block then I'd use an EN sump and oil pump for the extra capacity.
If you can only find standard size pistons then you might want to consider an EB1 block as you can bore it out to 72mm and have a fresh engine. An EB2/3 or EN1 block with standard bore will be worn to some extent (possibly even badly) so even with a hone and fresh pistons and rings the chance of using a bit of oil is greater. If you can find some oversize pistons then it doesn't really matter.

You will also find that with some EB engines the main bearing cradle needs to be clearanced to fit the EN crank and rods (sometimes the rods just touch the webbing on the outside of the cradle). It seems completely random as to whether this needs doing or not ... slight differences in the castings I guess. A few seconds with a die grinder or file is usually all that's needed.

Thats great! I wasn't sure if that post would come up as I guess it was from 2004 :) - Thanks Adrian. I guess just a couple more questions...

Would this engine design work with EB2 block not EB1 block like in yours? Also does this require doing a bore or shaving the head etc? Different oil pan or engine mounts?

As far having dual carbs or header yet....no. But hopefully I can find some this summer, or get the 4 2 1 header made?? This car is not a rush job, so we (Dorota and I - Nathan) don't mind taking our time or going to junk yards etc. :) it's really to learn about the car and rebuild it as much as possible...

Anyway, any photo's or more literature would be great. We plan on getting the tranny done in the next couple of weeks, then begin the engine re-build so I still have some time to do some reading. It's alot to learn...

Click my name for e-mail if you like.

I did answer you in your other thread ...

An EN cam won't really do anything much for you.

Have you got a set of dual carbs?

If you've got an EN bottom end then use it, the difference in torque between the EB and EN is huge. You don't need Goldwing pistons to use an EN crank/rods in an EB. Read what I wrote in the other thread ...

For a good basic boost in power for the EB2...is this the way to go....

EN1 cam (does it just drop in?)
Dual carbs
4 to 1 Header @ 1.75" all the way out.

and a complete rebuild so compression is good?

We don't want to go all the way with goldwing pistons etc. Just a simple rebuild with some new parts and mild boost in power. The EB2 seems pretty torquee stock it seems. It is also getting a 5 speed, lightened flywheel etc....the car is just a fun around town car with some highway trips here and there. So any advice is welcome.

P.S.:I have read many old posts about EN1 and EB's with Adrien, Mo, Don, Bruce etc. Also Justin I know you may have some good advice (like put in a new b16obd1 lol).

Dorota and I need some food for thought that won't break our bank but will make it even more fun to drive :) - thanks, nathan.
