Pour 10w 30 into a cup
pour 75w 90 into a cup
I think you will get the picture after this very simple test.
If you think motor oil is thicker then gear oil, maybe you should take the car to a shop for service so you do not damage anything.
Just my 2 cents

Why bother asking? people told you what they do and what honda recomends and you take no notice. And your not good to go I think, see how slow your synchros are, especially in cold weather with diff oil in there.

i didnt know what to do, stuck in 80 - 90 gear oil! ha ha ha ha ha! worked great! its just a bunch of gears, as long as their lubricated your good to go i think.
however, i will be putting in a lighter synthetic after my motor rebuild is done. just waiting for my crank and rods, got everything else ready! from 80-90 to 10-30 synthetic should help my acceleration some i'd think.....

Glen is perfectly correct, use atf with no worries at all. I've used it in competition honda boxes including straight cut specials for years, I use it in my road cars as well. brilliant stuff.

do not use gear oil. use the motor oil of your preference. i use mobile one 5-30 synthetic and it works well. regular 10-30 would work fine. some here use ATF, but i havn't tried that.
