Hey, Don do you get down to Thill? I just started rideing there. Will be racing next year if all goes well this year. My track day budget for my bike is around 10k this year just to give you an idea. Thats 20+ trackdays, hotel, food, tires , tires ,tires, and more tires!!!!!!!! 300+ a pop for 3-4 trackdays.

I love autocrossing. It costs me per day about 30 bucks, and that includes registration, tire wear, gas, and food. Granted, I'm only on the track for about 5 minutes tops, but it's a blast.

Road racing
Travel, motels, food, gas, both for tow and the race car and track fees, most people buy a set of tires at the track at least every other event. ....

They also have the Kart track at Mosport and not only do karts run on it but club cars too. They give you a transponder and let you do laps. You can bring any car from super modified to grampas family Ford. You can only race the clock and there is no passing allowed. That looked like fun. I was thinking of playing on the kart track then maybe working my way into Vintage.
The 6k for the licence came as quite a slap of reality. I didnt see what Mosport charges for track fees but if its anything like what Don was saying then ouch! Don that 2k and up per weekend is for what? Is that based on travel, lodging, fuel, tires and so forth? Funny how road racing is so expensive when most of the people that I talk to that work at Mosport are just volunteers lol.

Bad news
Road racing IS EXPENSIVE. Most low budget people estimate 2K plus in costs per weekend, There was a impact stament for thunderhill and the average racer spends over 15K per year not counting car repair or maintanence. Thats after they let you loose with a licence For the cost....
It depends....Do you have a car? If not you will have to rent one thats about 1K per weekend for an IT car.... way more if you pile it up . Then you have to join the group thats about 100 if your talking scca. Then a physical 100, then the novice permit and track fees I think those are about 1k. If you go to a regular school then yes 6k is about right.
Good news
Autocross can be fun and a good learning tool its about $25- 50 to race and you use you regular drivers licence. You will be watched closely the first few times but its mostly under 60 mph so its not that strict. You still have expenses For gas and hotel, tires etc but its much lower.
