I'll have to check out the hot rod next time i come over to island for tattoo's.
Otherwise if you come over here, you can use our compressor and neumatic body work stuff and my cobalt gun...trick is getting to Pemberton But hey, could be a fun weekend.

I've pretty much settled with leaving this car stock as far as the motor - it's a really fun ride as it is. I've got a hot rod in the works which is draining the money supply for performance parts.. but hell I'll save up and do a body and paint sesh on the car - it really really needs it. I'll buy all the materials and gun stuff (and of course pay you if you want).
As for the repairs, I don't usually hand things over to the shop, but I really didn't have the means (air tools) to get some of that stuff off. I don't have a welder at home so making all the one-off exaust parts was out of the question. I looked at the repair job and it's all pretty much the same size tubing. Anyway. The honda's rockin' Nice having the car firing properly, all I have left to do to the motor is find a new advance unit and figure out which rad to recore to get rid of that filthy pinhole.

Richard,
Hey I read this awhile ago, but didn't have time to respond. That sounds awesome, I'm glad your getting more into your little buggy. I know our little 75 without a muffler on it running up to Pemberton was loud as hell, but that little engine hauled...hense the re-build. What engine code is yours? EB1,2 or 3? You should get a nice little carb now, 32/36 DGV...not to expensive in the lower mainland here....
To bad you did it all at a shop, yuppie, lol just kidding...at least you did it, save another civic from the graveyard with an exhaust and oil change
So when can I paint it? You gotta get the body work done and I need practice painting, so you buy the paint, I'll spray, no gaurentee with metaillics....our 82 came out pretty damn good, but not showcar I am trying to Kyle on board as well....I took a 5 year break and just need the confidence again
Anyway, were did you get the muffler done up? did you stay the stock size? or go a bit bigger...

A long story..
One spring day I got under the car and got ready to change the oil. My oil drain plug was so tight, I couldn't get it to move at all with my regular 3/8" wrench. I really didn't want to jack up the car just for that little bit of extra leverage, So I just took the car to one of those 10 minute oil places where you sit in the car and read a paper and drink coffee while they do everything. $40 all said and done - air filter, oil filter, oil, rad top up, and a quick look at the general condition. holy I'm such a yuppie. anyway when they got me to run the car the poor guy in the pit yelled "turn it off.. kill it!".
Apparently my exhaust was HOSED and dumping exhaust fumes all over him. I had a failure in the primary and secondary.. oops. So I pay the people and head over to the muffler shop. $150 and they bend me a whole bunch of exhaust parts. When they're done beating on the car, they start it up and it's jaw dropping how quiet it's running. suddenly the car isn't loud anymore, and now I can hear that it's pinging like crazy.
My car's needed a timing belt for a while, so I decided to get that done today. I took the car and explained to them: needs a new belt and a tune up (timing, carb settings and points). They started the job at noon.
I don't get a call, so I decided to drop by at 4:30 and they tell me they're going to change the thermostat. I changed that part about 3 months ago, there's just no way anything could be wrong with it. the car is heat cycling normally I found it odd that they'd mess with that. So I ask them to please not mess with the cooling system, just finish the timing job. weird. kinda glad I dropped by on them I didn't really feel like having another hour of labour and a thermostat being added to the bill. :P
So I settled up with the shop and took the car for a test run. it's a totally different car than the one I left with them 4 hours before. it idles perfectly, no pinging, way way more power and suuuper quiet. I should have done this months ago. I'm pretty happy with my civic right now. Kinda glad I went for the yuppie oil change after all :D
