Problem 1975 Honda Civic

Unread post by AyyLmao »

Hello all! I have a little bit of a problem with my 75 Civic 1200 hondamatic. Ill describe the problem because there is a good chance i am wrong, so here goes. The motor runs good, in neutral, but the second it goes into gear, it starts running terrible, backfiring and it wont accelerate. I think it is the timing advance which should be run from a vacuum hose off of the top of the distributor, but its missing. The barb is in the picture with no hose on it.

Does anyone know where the line is supposed to run? Any advice helps. Thank you.

1975 Honda Civic Vacuum Problem

That distributor has vacuum retard only. It was fitted to the Hondamatic's to deal with idle emissions. With or without it the engine should run well. It might be that the hose the connects to it at the base of the carburettor is disconnected or missing and open to the air. Check for a hose connection which is below the throttle plates at the base of the carburettor. This is where it should connect to. The function of the vacuum retard is only effective at idle and light throttle. Once the throttle is opened the timing goes to 5 degrees before top dead centre, and then the advance weights in the distributor take over to advance the timing.

Hi Randy,

Could you tell me what publication the 3rd diagram, with figure c-21s, came from? I have a lot of 1200 books and none of them have this diagram.
Ty,
Mike
