A couple years ago back in Kelowna I came across a 74 at the pick a part. Some jackasses had cut the drivers sill and quater panel out.It looked like they used tin snips, axes, hammmers and chisels! No kidding!Idiots!Sad thing was this car was in awsome shape. You can bet the poor car they hacked up was a basket case and they would have been better off buying the 74.The abuse at self sevre yards is unbelivable.

I cried when the guy I sold my 76 to in 90-91 told me he only wanted the car for the motor. So him and his back woods buddies took their boots and a very large hammer to the car and totaly distroyed it. The insane part was it was in perfect condition and in better shape than his. The paint was like new. If I had ever though that would happen I would have never sold it to him. The really hard part was looking at this moron every day at work. If I only had a shovel in my hand when he told me. I better stop this is just getting me fired up. Too bad he got fired.

My Honda family just got bigger, I bought it for my son to go out of town to College in Peterborough but found out after months of asking what is going on that the school is going to be running a shuttle bus from there to Durham to pick up students. I think that is fantastic for me because I don’t have to drive “Dusty” for the rest of the winter. Woooo hooey.
It’s a 91 Civic CX 147,000 km and runs fantastic. My son must be having nightmares about all the body kits and stickers to get for the car.
How ever my front lawn just got smaller.
I can hardly wait until the day that the half breed GM Tupperware container goes to the curb with the rest of the plastics. I wonder if they are sealed right how long they will float in water.

Shreck,
Anymore cars and I might have to live in one of them, my wagon would have the most room, now ,where did I put it?!?!?!
My 81 Civic project has been at a standstill for about 3 weeks, too freakin' cold. Doors and frames are painted and back on, as is the hatch and body opening. Considering I just picked up a couple more cars in the last couple of weeks, means the project is on hold for a while, til the funds become available again.
Gotta love how far everthing moves when it is so cold out, my garage door needs a good hoof from my boot to open.
Oh, and I have never actually mutilated any first or second gen Civics myself, but have sent over 15 off to car heaven (Lasco Steel, probably more like car hell?)

Oh MAN, Randy, I know exactly what you mean by heaving. My garage is basically an enclosed carport and the door in from beside the back of the house won't open 'cause it's heaved. ARGGH! F*#%! Guess I'll be rebuilding that short piece of wall this year.
Y'all should've seen Colin cry when the auto shop boys cut that old Civic in half. Come to think of it, that car was in better shape than mine! Never thought back then I'd actually OWN one of these!
Thanks all for sharing your thoughts and memories.
Regards,
Shea

I think we have to make an exception for these old cars. If you have any more of these cars popping out of your garage your wife is going to have to put you on the pill Colin.
Buy the way how is you second gen going?
I have been itching to get out to the garage but my deck has heaved up and the doors are jambed shut.

Car museum???? I think you have to have 10 to be a museum, and I "ONLY" have 6.
Nice dustbuster, where do you plug it in?
Yes Shea, I remember the Civic front clip that played "Greased Lightning"
I didn't remember the hood hanging on the wall, but I sure remember knocking the wheel discs off of the wall with certain projectiles while the teacher wasn't looking!!!

I did it out of need for a hondamatic transmission to start that my to be brother in law blew up. I think he dropped it into low gear on the hwy. My muffler was also blown to bits too.
Anyway here goes.
In the early 80’s I bought a 77 and a 78 civic from an ice racer for $75.00 (His wife made him get rid of 2 or none at all. He had a barn full.),one of them was running and the other was in boxes but complete. At the time I had a 76 civic stored for the winter in my “to be” in laws back garden and had an Oldsmobile. My to be father in law said I could bring them home but had to find a place for one of them. With careful persuasion he let me store one on the front lawn of his cottage. In the spring I took the motor and transmission out by lifting the body off the drive line and rolling it back. Now I had to get rid of the body. Was a shame when I think about it now as it just had minor fender damage and no rust. I took a cutting torch and cut the car in half and delivered the front part of the body to the dump in the trunk of my Oldsmobile Omega. The one that was in boxes I kept and put back together. I kept the back half of the 77 and made one of those trailers you see around here.
Then 4-5 years ago I towed one back from London Ontario, My wife freaked, this car has to be out of here right away. Like I have a single tiny garage and driveway with no room for extras. Not like Colin’s and Justin’s car museum. First thing I did was to change the blade in my circular saw with one of those blades that cut through steel and cement, with the saw in hand I felt like I was cutting a sandwich in half. One cut across the roof and one cut across the floor, bingo done in about 20 min. Put each half on end onto dollies and rolled them into the garage in front of my 78. My wife and neighbors could not believe what I was doing. Later I was able to strip the car in very close quarters out of sight.
I think the township and neighbor that is on the town council would be mighty *issed if I were to try and crush it in my driveway with my Pontiac Transport. "Dusty" Short for dust buster made of high grade tupperware. http://www.civic1200.com/discus/messages/1/5309.jpg

Well, me and some friends did this:
http://www.civic1200.com/discus/messages/1/3022.html?
The car ultimately ended up in roughly 3ft. cubes that were loaded into the back of my truck and taken to a local scrap yard. We didn't have a title for the car (though it was legally obtained) and only wanted it for parts.
It was rusted out terribly by Oregon standards, and would have required much more work than any of us were willing to put into it.

No, not a car being sucked up by space aliens...though I DO enjoy a good UFO story now and again. I just thought I'd ask of the board, "What's the WORST cutting or hacking you've ever seen done to an early Civic?"
I'll start the "response" with a question to CVCCx2-Wonder if that hood is still hanging on the auto shop wall at Bowmanville High School? Colin will remember what I'm talking about.

Shea
