What carb to use

Civic1200 Discussion Board: : What carb to use

the 1.3 and 1.5 are CVCC motors, at least in the United States. Some 1.5's were non-CVCC in Canada and overseas. The carburetor and manifold are completely different from the 1200 motors.

Are there any differences in the intake manifolds and carbs on 1.2L,1.3L, engines?
I ask because I've found a couple of places that stock weber 32/36 kits for 1.3L and 1.5L 8 valve engines but no kits for the 1.2L (which is what I have).

could you get any side draft to work with the turbo?

Apparently I was misinformed. THanks for clearing it up.:)

Like Adrian said, the Datsun carbs and the SU carbs though a very similar design, are not identical, and honestly I don't know if any of the parts are interchangeable. I will say this, there are vastly more SU's out there, even more parts, as all of it including the entire carb assembly is being repop'd due to the British sport car market. Much greater tuneability due to so many more experts of how to tune them, and a greater range of internal parts like jets etc. So if you are set on going that route, SU is definitely the way to go.
Lot of problems associated with building a suck through design though. Always heard more about the failures than the successes particularly where early Honda motors were concerned.
I think some of it was due to the fact that although the C/R was fairly in line with a turbo setup, the combustion chamber, and piston crown themselves were not. So even with the OK C/R spec, detonation tended to be a big problem.
We have to remind ourselves that the EB and ED-EK motors are thirty-plus year old designs whose focus was not power as much as fuel economy, and emissions.
I really think prudence dictates some serious headwork( I don't meant a port job alone here) and custom pistons to match for any EB, or ED-EK.
A hell of a lot has been learned in the last thirty years of trial and error and we might as well try to take advantage of it.

and Yes the Jackson set up used an SU side draft carb. There is a pic of it somewhere on the board.

If they're made by Hitachi then they're not SUs now are they? :)

The old Hitachis as used on the 240 and 260Z were not very good. You'll find a lot of Dattos have had the Hitachis pulled off and thrown out and SUs put on in their place.

I've never touched an SU...just recommended to me. You'll have to ask someone else. Sry

Aren't the Hitachi SU's from datto's and MG's? Any other sources?

By Jarcaf (Jarcaf) (207.55.238.216) on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 - 10:10 pm:

SU's are easy and parts should be a snap to find. That's what was suggested to me by my shop teacher. Apparently that's what the old Jackson kits came with. Isn't that what Glenn's running ?
