I have lowered the car 2.5 inches and no suspension problems other than the camber is out and will wear the tires uneven, but hey who really cares when they are $25 a piece. When I hit large bumps on the road, I have been told the car sways side to side a bit (probably since the camber is out) but I don't really notice it. Can't wait to get it back on the road with the stroker mod and NOS! I live in Edmonton, Alberta by the way.

Believe it or not, many years ago when I had the 600 Coupe, I got ahold of a lowering kit for it. It consisted of two lowering blocks for the rear...not applicable for us...but the front was lowered by inserting a injection moulded piece of plastic that fit on top of the inner shock tower somehow, been so long ago now I don't remember exactly how, but I do remember that the net effect was to drop the front end at least an inch without any loss of shock travel. It has been my thought since that the best way of handleing a small drop, say an inch or so would be to modify the strutcaps to create the same effect...could be done both front and rear...and would help to solve the potential bottoming problem of cut, or shorter springs.

cool you are the first to do it that I way that Ive seen, Im most likely going to do it to mine and now that I se it works and looks good thats all the more better. Take some close ups of the lowering job abd hood for me sometime. Where are you btw?

By Stephan Perron (Dropped76) (142.59.237.241) on Tuesday, March 08, 2005 - 07:38 pm:

jms,
yes i cut the strut towers to maintain original suspension travel. of course i had to come through the hood and modify the rear seat brackets but i like the look. i have a ton of pic's but they are all film and haven't really got around to scanning them and uploading them to my webspace. i actually bought the car rolled and spent a year rebuilding it off and on in the evenings. floorboards are mint, and i mean factory mint, which is why i rebuilt it!

By jms (150.113.26.4) on Tuesday, March 08, 2005 - 12:39 pm:

Stephan NICE lowering job, whats with the hood did you drop it by cutting out the strut tops and raising them, and now those spots are for clearance? I was going to do that, got any close ups of it?

Importing a whole car will most likely cost you over a grand in just customs/broker fees. Shipping it by slow boat will be around a 1k to 2k also. Registering a car from out of country is just an additional headache. Its not like buying a used car you need verification and lots of paperwork you need to pay for to get done. I didn't get the whole front clip Just dash to strut towers. About 2.5 feet of the car. The entire rack and lower sub frame is different.

P.S. ask JMS about the customs/broker fees. What a pain in the ass that was. First off Matt was great at getting the parts but had no idea of the logistics, customs, or broker needs and fees. I ended up paying quite a bit more than I expected. But with such endeavors you must be prepared for these things.

P.S.S. I think Matt gave up on this after us.

unfortunately you can't just flip the rack and pinion around, you would then have reverse steering. I know this because I am still in the middle of trying to RHD my 76 civic.I contacted Adrian in australia about getting some parts a while back but have since left it to be. I am in the middle of the conversion but have lost patience and decided to just keep it LHD for now as it has been sitting for over a year now. It took me a year to build the car and drove it for 2 months, wasn't fast enough so I tore it back down to a shell and thought of RHD. Here is a pic of my dropped 76

I bet with a bit of work the pedals and stering could just be moved. I wonder if one could just flip the rack and pinion? Then the only thing that would need to be done is the wipers. The dash pad is probaly the only thing that would have to be bought. I have looked at this for a while too. I've driven a RHD (not a civic) in Africa but the hard part is then coming back to the States and driving on the right side of the road. I came back last summer and had a few times when I was driving on the wrong side. It takes time to re-adjust!!! They have the 4dr civics in Africa RHD too.

Any guess on the price of shipping a whole car from Australia to the US or Canada (In my case Hawaii...). I have only seen about five 1st gens here in Honolulu in the past two years. I might just have to ship one in. So why not from Australia? :)
There shouldn't be any issues with registering a RHD Civic anywhere in the US because they are all over 25 years old now. I think... Still need to look into it more. Heck, I don't have the money to do it anyway, but it's worth dreaming about.

By jms (70.146.152.38) on Saturday, March 05, 2005 - 10:01 am:

exactly, and thats what we got the whole fire wall, like I said if you to do it the smart cheap way just get a list from us and have him cut if from the firewall, firewalls are huge and not light or cheap to ship to the US dude.

By Don (63.135.203.34) on Saturday, March 05, 2005 - 06:45 am:

LOL - Chris you had better get the pedal assembly unless you want your gf hitting the gas and brakes for you.....And thats why they got the clip lots of unknowns until someone did one.

By chris ingham (Cingham) (4.227.163.173) on Friday, March 04, 2005 - 10:10 pm:

lol u guys bought the whole clip...all i want is the fire wall and the steering rack along with the dash, thats it

By jms (68.19.246.221) on Friday, March 04, 2005 - 05:59 pm:

Well I got the other one you do NOT need the whole clip like we got (thats why it was so expensive) just certain parts cut off and taken off that can be shipped cheaper (much lighter), I can tell you what you need and Matt should be able to hook you up. YOu need front x-member, brake mounts cut off firewall, steering column cuy off firewall, RHD pedals and cables of ocurse the dash is the main thing and I think thats all.

There's a thread here about it. The guy selling them was Matthew Woodburn from New Zealand. I gave it a quick look over, but if I was going to do it I would just import a whole running car over here and save the labor of swapping over the parts. The body isn't exactly the same, there's the windshield wiper holes (most noticable feature on the outside that's different) as well as a few other small things that are a little off, but a relatively large job to change.

By Ramon (207.5.2.130) on Friday, March 04, 2005 - 12:18 pm:

There where 2 of us on this board that bought one. With parts and all import fees your looking to spend around $1500.00. Plus it takes some time to boat it over and get through customs. A whole car cost more to import too.

By Don (63.135.203.207) on Friday, March 04, 2005 - 05:09 am:

The fire wall is the same on a gen1 just different holes are cut out. Raymon (CACI Civic below) has a gen1 RHD clip you may want to contact him if you have some $$$$.

By chris ingham (Cingham) (4.227.163.129) on Thursday, March 03, 2005 - 11:39 pm:

where would one go to get a fire wall and such in the states?
