I'm joining the Formula SAE team up at Oregon State next fall, and we'll be converting a 600cc crotch rocket engine to homebrew FI(motorcycle carbs can't handle any kind of lateral G, much less the kind made in these carts). It'd be nice to have this kind of experience under my belt before I go into that.
I've been wanting to autox for three years now, but the first year I didn't have a car, last year I had problems w/ my stupid aux valves, and this year my car WILL NOT turn left! How frustrating! I would love nothing more than to one day become a pro racer, but this is not turning out to be a good start Maybe I'll have some better luck w/ 4 years of Formula SAE and a mechanical engineering degree.
Anyways, I'll see how money goes this summer, and maybe I'll get enough to start up a megasquirt system. (Graduation gift from family???)
Thanks for your input guys, and I look forward to talking to you as well Cam.

Over here in NZ we have an aftermarket ECU called a LINK. They can be picked up fairly cheap second hand ($300-$500 NZ) and can run off as few as 7 wires. They are known to work, many people can tune them, and the company is still making new ones so you can get any support info you need from them.
I think that as interesting as it would be to build your own engine management system, for someone who may be new to FI it would be much easier and much more reliable to go with a commercial option.
If you do build a MegaSquirt let me know how it goes =) id be very interested to hear!

A buddy of mine was using a megasquirt system on his 280zx turbo, I never really got into it, as I had no plans on running it but it did seem to be rather usefull. I remember sitting in his house one day with a long cord running out to his car in the driveway and we were adjusting the fuel maps as it was running, you could hear the car change outside, and if I hit F4? it would stall =)

Even formula ford and the datsun 510/ bmw guys have problems with fuel slosh on a dgv and they are turned 90 compared to a honda. The fix is carb mods. If your friend car hasn't had trouble then he hasn't pushed it hard enough yet ...
the problem is not as bad with the carb position that way though. Yes Mikes the guy, I wish I could get out there .... My metric heim joints came in after 8 weeks of waiting and one had a crack right down the center ...sent them back

I guess my response from earlier today didn't post.
Anyways,
Tor-If that adapter turns the 32/36 by 90 degrees on a EK cvcc manifold, I'd be interested in one. I know they're capable of cornering, but only if they're set perpendicular to the car. Two of my friends have BMW 2002's with 32/36 that handle like a dream. Can I see some pics of that adapter, if that's what I think it is?
Don-Is that Mike in the #6 Fiat that you're talkin' about? I'll go check it out at the next event.
Thanks guys,

Hey cam,
Glad to see your enthusiasm here, but you may want to use the search function for this stuff. Also, your post has nothing to do with the topic I originally started this thread with, so it would be best to at least find a relevant thread.
Here's a relevant thread to help you out anyways. http://www.civic1200.com/discus/messages/1/3137.html?
Basically, 1st gens have a 4x120mm bolt pattern, which is entirely different from those of any later model civics or any other car w/ a few exceptions and those have the wrong offset. Best bet is to check out the 1stgencivic.com site and look for the article on the upgrade.
I don't mean to sound like an @$$hole, but it's just stuff you'll soon find out on this board anyways. Good luck

your adapter is just that... has nothing to do with the fuel shosh. you have to get a different carb to cure that.

Isnt there an addapter that will stop it from leaning out in the corners?
I have an engine that has one but I am still in the process of putting it in the car so I cannot attest to how well it works.

There is a guy running out on the autox track from time to time in a fiat that has that system.... Fi is a good choice

I have a mate who researched it very thoroughly and is still considering building one. However i do not know of any first hand accounts of anyone who has made one.

Hey guys,
I'm working on my turbo project, and I'm concerned about my carb. It's a total pain on left-hand corners and stalls out entirely, I think it's leaning out way too much on decelleration and causing a misfire/backfire, and it's just a pain to tune the transition points. Anyways, none of these sound pleasant and with a turbo it'll get even worse. Therefore, a MegaSquirt system is sounding enticing and just wanted to see if any of you guys have tried it or heard of some success stories.
